We all get discouraged some times - it's part of life. You need though to try and maintain a positive attitude regardless of the adversities.

Why not tell Warriors a little of your background, what you are doing and what you would like to achieve? That would be a start.

It would then allow any Warriors viewing the thread, who have been through the same issues as you, to offer support and advice.

      Jeff.

We all go through this, and I've personally found my source of discouragement is always a lack of action...or not as much action as I feel I should be doing. If I spend all day writing multiple blog posts, and writing aricles, for many days in a row, I always feel less discouraged!

Of course, it takes that first sign of success, after taking massive action to help the overall feeling.

I know how you feel! I would say, pick a system, and work it HARD.

We all get discouraged. Well, thats normal. Well, one thing that you should not do is wallow in sadness and be demotivated. That will eat you alive.

      Hi bigsean38,

how do yall keep from being discouraged? i mean i know that nothing comes overnight, but its getting harder for me! and i feel like im falling apart! i guess what im saying is if yall can help me keep my spirits up, i would appreciate it.
I find that you can't. Just living with your eyes and ears open can be discouraging, but you have to stay observant and act like a sponge when it comes to seeking new knowledge and experience.

Therefore it's wise to accept that at times, total discouragement will envelope you like a wave that you didn't see coming. Then instead, focus on developing the stamina and faith required to brush that discouragement off and boldly carry on regardless of it - laugh in the face of discouragement because you are bigger than it.

i know that nothing comes overnight, but its getting harder for me!
For most people, it's really easy to imagine, or find and observe people for whom everything is much harder than it is for them. Go and see how they deal with discouragement, then you will feel totally ashamed of yourself and the problem will be gone. If it doesn't work the first time, keep doing it over and over until it damn well does!

Just be positive. I know it's hard sometimes but it gets easier with practice. Always remember that there is always a bright side to every dark moment that you experience.
Just find it and focus on it.

One thing I can say that's going for you is that at least you've acted and started something that has the potential to provide you a stable income. Work on it and focus on your goal and you'll get your first sale without even knowing it.

      Iagree with ex Rat.

Start by putting some more effort into your writing. The spelling, punctuation, and grammar are apalling, both of you.

How you feel isn't caused by what happens to you - or doesn't happen to you. How you feel is the result of your own REACTION to what life throws at you.

In other words, it's an inside job, not an external event. You control it.

Still, that doesn't make it easy.

Here's some advice that might help you though.

Separate your feelings from your business. These are two different things.

How you feel is how you feel and there are a million ways to address your countenance, from drugs to meditation, sex to rock and roll, faith to degradation - find what works for you, what helps you get your mood back to productive again instead of curled up in a fetal position in the bed all day, frozen in depression.

Feelings - separate problem from business or external events in your life you might blame for the way you feel, but the truth is the only thing you can blame for how you feel is yourself.

I can't remember where I heard the illustration before but it went something like this:

"It's the little voices in your mind that hurt you, not the big mouths of your peers criticizing you."

If I say to you "You have ugly purple skin and disgusting worms growing out of your ears!" that probably doesn't hurt your feelings because those little voices inside of you are saying "Uhm, no I don't have purple skin or worms growing out of my ears - dude is whacked." and it likely doesn't bother you too much.

The little voices didn't agree... they actually defended you, right?

However, what if I say to you "You are a lousy business person, you can't make any money online and you never will, loser!" Let me ask you now - what do those little voices say now? Chances are instead of defending you, they might be saying "Dude, he's right, you ARE a loser and you will NEVER make any money online, just quit now."

Problem is - it isn't what I SAID that really hurt you - it's what that little voice - YOUR LITTLE VOICE said to you ABOUT what I said that is your problem.

Hope I'm not being to hard to understand, but once you recognize this, you'll be better able to straddle those little voices and put duct tape over their mouths when they don't defend you. Get those little guys on YOUR payroll, on your side and fire them if they won't fight your battles for you.

Remember - feelings are an inside job. Nobody can MAKE you feel anything but YOU. Likewise, nobody can make you feel better but you either. It's your job to figure this out and fix it, no one else.

    =====

Business problems are not feelings. Get your feelings out of your damn business - well, accept your gut. Leave your gut in the game, it will often tell you what your head won't.

I've always said that business decisions are made with a calculator.

Leave your emotions out of it - they just cloud the water.

If you are not making any money in your business it's not because you are happy or sad or depressed or discouraged - it's because you need to get your business fixed in some way.

Business is about having something of value to offer others who will give you value in exchange - generally, money, but not always.

What do you have of value that I want?

What can you offer me that I would want to give you money for?

How can you acquire, create, or offer something of value to me so I give you money for it?

What can you do today to get you closer to providing value to me tomorrow?

These are not feelings questions, they are business questions.

Answer them - don't care about how you feel about the answers, just answer them and be honest - do you have anything of value to offer me?

If not - fix it. Get something of value out there that is either your own or someone else', that you can get in my hands so I will give you money for it. Help me - I'll pay you.

Products, programs or services. That covers about all of them. Information is really a product - but, we'll make it a fourth item. If you can give me information, if it's solid, valuable, I'll pay you for that too.

Hopefully - separating these two things will help you get your head out of your backside and move your business forward.

Both problems suck - but they do not have to affect each other if you won't let them.

So, get to work on yourself and get to work on your business.

Find someone to help you with both if you need to, but forward is the direction you are looking for.

    Forward, ever forward.

Facing discouragement is a challenging part of one's life; it may not be easy but is worth fighting against it. At times in our life, we felt disappointed and discouraged to some of the events that had happen. Some quit because they are overcome with their emotions and reactions to a certain decisions that didn't went their way.
One of the factors why people get discouraged is the lack of motivation and passion to really pursue what they really want to do. Have a positive outlook in life and set a goal that you really want to reach. People should overcome that setbacks or what people called "mistakes" in their life, or it will consume them and that forces them to quit.

Personal and Professional have to be separated, since it is very difficult to combine the two especially in the professional work. It has to be separated but I won't say totally since that is close to impossible. Just try to relax and focus on the professional work.

I don't know if this will help you or not:

I spent months going around in circles, trying this, trying that - buying this, buying that. Always thinking about the money.

It really truly changed for me when I STOPPED thinking about the money and started thinking about other people.

LEARN.. then teach, the money will follow. Guys who think nothing at all except about the money, are usually still thinking about it, months, years later..

      Give first, then accept later..

    Hi bigsean38,

I too am just starting out (though I've designed websites for many years). My advice is:

    - learn as much about keywords as you possibly can.
    - keep building websites and adding blog entries -- daily if possible
    - ask questions because the feedback of those who have made it is invaluable to you.

    I hope this helps!

Think of three really good things in your life. Think about how they came into your life and how much you appreciate them. Think about WHY they are really good things in your life. Think about how you nurture them to keep them as a positive influence.

Think of three really bad things in your life. Think about how they came into your life and how much they interfere with your happiness/goals/income.

Think about WHY they impact you in such a negative way. Now MINIMIZE that impact in your mind and see if facing and analyzing the "bad things" takes away their power and diminishes their negative influence.

A lot of getting discouraged is thinking in a negative way. Focussing on negative things and thinking about how they are harming you often helps them grow disproportionately compared to their actual impact.

    Take a deep brath.

    Smell the flowers.

    Hi bigsean38,

I understand exactly what you are going through. When its your business its personal and when times are slow it cannot help but get you down. The key to success is to not give up. Keep pushing through the hard times and there will be success another day. I am sure men like Sam Walton and Bernie Marcus had days when they wanted to pack it in but the difference between them and all of the others is that they staid the course. A previous post said set a goal. That is very important, just make sure it is a goal that is reachable and set several. When you hit one of thes milestones it makes you feel so much better.

Another thing to do is make lists of what you need to accomplish. If you are trying to build a list then to gain potential customers then list the things that will help you reach that goal, posting in forums, article writing, etc.and then do those tasks.

Keep pushing forward and don't stop. Your hard work will be rewarded.

Although this is against what some people tell me I should do (work harder) this is what works for me.

When I am getting down about something not working I just take a time out... I switch off anything to do with it, I don't touch a keyboard or read a piece of training... I go outside and I play with my kids or switch the PS3 on and have a total break...

And then when I get back to it I feel on top of the world again!

When I was first starting out with my own local consulting business, I worked pretty hard and after 6 months had almost nothing to show for it.

....so, like you, I got discouraged.

Setup very small goals to reach. (turn on the computer)
Continue with these small goals, reflect back on your day and you should have realized that you got something done!

This feeling should push you to keep achieving

Ok, so what you do the next day is to add a little more to what you did the day before.

    Rinse and repeat

Hopefully you can begin to measure effort in money.

It's all too easy to become discouraged, especially if you're working alone, with no-one to discuss or refer. Even if you have family moral support, they won't understand the challenges that arise regularly. That's where the many benefits of the Warrior Forum help.

I found one of the best ways to fight being discouraged, is to make a list of to do's.

In the beginning, you may not be able to deal with the priorities, but even if you complete one simple item, you will feel motivated, as you have, at least achieved something.

With practise, this method becomes self driven, and you will be more inclined to finish more and more items on your list.

It does require some self disipline and persistence.

    Cheers
