For those of you who use forums for their marketing, do you direct people to your fb fan page, with your signature?

Really just depends on how you are trying to convert? Also are those links 'do follow' or 'no follow'. Sometimes it can benefit your SEO for a website or blog.

  No ... to my landing page. That's where I want the traffic (and it's also where I want most of the SEO, though that's far less important).

  For me, it isn't relevant at all: I benefit a lot from no-follow links anyway.
  
  Having done the difficult and time-consuming part of identifying forums relevant to my niches in which I can post with a sig-file link, I'm certainly not going to "not bother" just because the links might be no-follow. I have the Firefox one-click toy to tell at a glance, but I don't even look, to be honest. I want those backlinks, too.
  
  Many search engines ignore "no-follow" anyway.
  
  Many people believe that Google doesn't discount "no-follow" as much as it sometimes claims: it's ambiguous at best.
  
  If you've already decided that no-follow links are no use to you, it probably won't interest you much, but actually there are many interesting threads here explaining/discussing do-follow/no-follow links, if you're open to having a little re-think about them.

It depends on your goals, and which forum. Typically, I direct them to a targeted web page.

I would suggest taking a direct route to your main page. Facebook is usually another marketing tool, so I wouldn't want to direct from one marketing tool to another unless I had a really good reason for doing so.

  I think it also depends on what your current goal is for the traffic you are trying to build. For example...I am brand new to this forum and while participating I want to spread my link around for the website I am trying gain backlinks to.
  
  The manual work of posting backlinks takes a long time...do you really want them to back link to your Facebook Fan Page? Why not point them to your own website and a portal where they can pick up what they are looking from you.
  
  Building your own website is a daunting task, but with the right tools you can speed up the investment of time and results.

Hey Watchman

You are right -this forum is powerful, and there is a lot of great information here.

What I think, I will do is test different forums, and put my fan page link in a few, and the rest I will continue to drive to my website.

This is my thinking:

I would like to keep building an active fan page, where I can build a relationship with my fans, and then began to direct them, to wherever I want them to go.

The latest statistics, (sorry I don't have exact numbers in front of me) show that people that are directed to a webpage from Facebook, tend to stay there longer than if they came from Google.

Now why is that?

I think because once the relationship is formed, people will trust you more.

Also, I have heard that people are seeing a higher conversion with opt-ins to a squeeze page that is found at a Facebook fan page.

  I've found that people are more willing to opt-in from a forum then when they are on my FB Fan Page (even after 'liking' it)...
  
  How do I know - well - simple math really...
  
  My email list 15K plus...
  My fanpage just shy of 1K...
  
  Opt-ins from those 1k fans... very low...
  
  Opt-ins from the forum... nearly always over 50% (and responsible for about half of my 15K list)
  
  If your goal is to build a list - link to a squeeze page...
  
  Don't worry about backlinks and all that jazz - the real power of this forum is TRAFFIC and TARGETED at that - so send them to a squeeze page, get them on your list, you can show them your fan page later...

I change my signature weekly. Sometimes it goes to my Facebook page, sometimes it goes to squeeze pages and other times it goes directly to a product.
