Invert, always invert. How to absolutely never make ANY money with internet marketing.

After reading this wonderful book (Poor Charlie's Almanack - The Wit and Wisdom of Charles T. Munger) by Charles T. Munger - Warren Buffet's right-hand man - I wanted to put one of his ideas into practice and share it with you.

Munger says that a lot of the problems he faces in business are most easily solved when thinking about them in reverse.

I see a lot of people asking "How can I make $500 next month?", or "What's the easiest method to making $100 per day?", etc...

Let's look at another question.

How can you guarantee that you will never make any money EVER with internet marketing?

Well, at first I thought that if you didn't bother learning anything about writing sales copy, advertising, or web design, you could never make money. I didn't think you could outsource those things without knowing how to do those things yourself. But, there is still a SLIM chance that you run into some high-quality and honest freelancers that won't try to fleece you even though you are ignorant to the type of work that you are paying them to do. So it is slightly possible that you could make money without knowing anything about web design or advertising or sales copy.

What if you habitually overpay for adwords campaigns? You can't be profitable paying too much for ad space, that's for sure. But you do get a feel for the market when running ad campaigns, and those feels sometimes spark ideas about different niches or different advertising methods that do lead to profitable campaigns.

What about having duplicate content? Well, that might get you banned from google and definitely won't help, but there are tons of search engines and not all of them impose the same penalties.
[edit: Kay is right, if you are worried that your content is just 30% unique rather than 40% and think it's going to hurt sales, STOP WORRYING. Duplicate content is really only a problem if you are throwing up hundreds/thousands of mad-libbed pages on an obvious black-hat site.]

Not building a list? I was making $500 per day before I even knew about building lists.

Poor market research? Picking the wrong niche? Even if the market you chose isn't good now, who knows what will be printed in the newspapers tomorrow. It may take off.

I could go on like this forever addressing countless concerns and questions that people have about why they are struggling to make money online.

So what is the answer?

How can you guarantee that you never make any money ever with internet marketing?

The only way I see to accomplish that goal is...

...to keep reading threads, like this one, and never take any action.

Really, it's that simple. All you have to do to never make any money is just keep reading. When you are done with this thread, go open another. When you are done with that thread, go buy another book, when you are done with that book, find some blogs with case studies. Whatever you do, DON'T STOP READING. Follow those 3 words religiously and you have nothing to worry about if your goal is to not make money.

If you never build a website, never test out an adwords campaign, never write an advertisement, never build a link to your site, never get content out there with links for people to click on, you can rest safely assured that you will never make any money on the internet.
If you ever accidentally DO any of those things though, beware, there is a chance that you will make money. It may not be a lot of money, and it may not come quick, but it is a fact that, doing those things, will give you a non-zero chance of making money.

Taking action should be the first chapter of every Internet Marketing ebook, ecourse, or any other product. You can read and learn all you want, but if you never take action, then do not expect to make a single cent!

I totally agree. Reading all those meaningless threads on this forum IS a time-sink.

However, it only takes about 1/10 of the time to read them as it does to post them.

And it's comments like this that lead 10 new marketers to start worrying about duplicate content when they don't need to.

You keep writing "STOP READING", but I just want to finish what you have to say! I guess that says a bit about me and a lot about your writing!

That's not duplicate content, that's web spamming. Blackhat actually requires a high level of action because you have to get inside Google's OODA loop, something that's difficult to do time and time again. If regular Internet marketers were as action oriented as actual blackhatters they would be making more money.

    I love Mungers book.

How can you guarantee that you will never make any money EVER with internet marketing?

    1. Never do anything.
    2. Sabotage yourself (think you don't want the money).
    3. Never take action.
    4. Don't provide any value.
    5. Never do anything.
    6. Keep reading threads like this.
    7. Jump from thread to thread, asking how can I make $100 a day?

Don't dare write something that could spark someone's interest. Remember, it's how to never make any money. You could never write something that might produce even a fraction of an interest from a potential reader. I think the biggest way to completely fail is to not do anything.

There are so many great quotes in that Munger book. "Take a simple idea and take it seriously". "To the man with a hammer, every problem looks like a nail". And his recommended list of books in the back is excellent.

I do not regret the threads I have read on here. The key is to do something that adds value to your operation and builds assets each day before coming to WF. After you have done that, reward yourself by stopping by and learning something.
