Default Auto responder spam question...

Is anyone else troubled by junk auto responder mail?

I'm really irritated by the recent spam that is coming to my inbox through my auto responder and I want it to stop.

I'm using GetResponse and spammers are signing up, gaining access to my direct auto responder email address and sending me junk ads. This week, my inbox has been loaded with them.

What can I do to prevent this from happening? I know I can change my auto responder and delete the ones that are being spammed, but that can become tedious if this action continues. It would mean going through all places where I have opt in boxes and change them all.

Is there something I should be doing (or can do) when I set up my auto responder to prevent this? Or is it just something we have to live with?

I've never heard anyone else complain about this so I can't help wondering if it's something I'm missing.

Thanks.

Sylvia

Sylvia, I'm not sure how GetResponse works, so this might not work for you.

What I do is set the reply-to address (the one spammers like to scam from the signup) to a dummy address. Anything sent to that address goes into the black hole.

If you've ever gotten one of those emails that say something like 'do not reply to this email, as the address is not monitored', you likely saw someone doing this.

People wanting to contact me are referred to a contact form on my site. That form uses a form processing script that protects against automatic submission.

Once someone does contact me, they get a real email address for future use if needed.

Hope this helps...

[Anyone interested, the form processor I use is called Master Form V4 and it's available for under $100 from Willmaster.com. Install once on a single domain, and use it from any other domain you specify. I've been using Will Bontrager's stuff for years now, and the product quality and customer service are amazing. Especially since Will and his wife are full-time RVers...]

Thanks.

I don't how Getresponse works, but your autoresponder address supposed to be your list subscription address. no? Means if anybody subscribes to your direct autoresponder address, they should be subscribed. If they already exists they receive an email saying they are already exists in the list. Right?

* ALWAYS use an from address like noreply@yoursite.com
* keep a note to your helpdesk in your email
* noreply@yoursite.com - set it to 'fail' in your webpanel.
So you receive no spam.

Thanks, John.

I tried as you say... and put noreply@mysite.com in my general settings for my ARs (so it takes effect with all my ARs). And then I received another spam email forwarded FROM my proper AR email address ON BEHALF OF noreply@mysite.com. I've looked and don't see anywhere else to do this. I still need to receive my weekly notifications of people who signed up, so there has to be one proper email address in there somewhere.

I'm confused...

I sent a query to GR and am waiting for a reply, but it usually takes a few days.

Thanks... but I don't think there's an option anywhere in my AR to set the email to 'fail' - never seen anything.
