How to Create an Overall National Site with Local Pages

Let's say I want to create a national site for a niche. The plan would be to start local, working with various businesses, but to expand (but setting the site up for this).

So, could I have it say such and such usa.com, and then slash/california for the state, and then say "slash/losangeles" for local?

It seems the structure would work okay, but how would that work for local people using an address? They would not have a .com that was local, so what would be the solution? Just to create state or local sites and link them to a national page?

Please advise, thanks.

You could use state.sitename-usa.dom or use states as subdirectories as you mentioned.

If there is any possibility of going international, even to just Canada and/or Mexico, you might want to consider a structure that plans for that.

    sitename.dom/usa/alabama
    sitename.dom/usa/alaska
    sitename.dom/canada/quebec

    And so on...

Oh, and if you want local domains, just register something like "alabamasite.dom" and redirect it to "sitename.dom/usa/alabama".

Hmmm. Unless I'm missing something or am failing to think of something, I think this is a "bingo" and you've hit the nail on the head!

        THANKS!
