If I start right now, is there still time to rank and bank $$$ before the Holidays?

As we near the end of September, I suddenly realize that there are 3 months left in the year 2011. That is just about 3 full months before Christmas. I know that November and December are generally the busiest online shopping periods of the year. So I was wondering, if I started a site right now from scratch, with good keyword research, proper SEO tactics, add good content, and do some backlinking, can I actually hope to get some traffic and sales by Christmas time? Or have I missed the bus?

Thanks,
Trav

Sure you can, especially if you research low competition keywords. Like many others here, I've ranked websites to the top 3 in a week for low competition keywords. Some even by just relying on on-site SEO alone. So go for it .

Why not just build a site and see for yourself? Even if you do not make a lot of money this year, it would be nicely aged going into next Christmas.

By the way, I started a new site last night so I obviously do not think it is too late.

This thread sounds like WAY too much work - 3 months is enough to generate 6 figures if you're doing it right

You have not missed the boat. You still have time to get going and make some good money. The key is to buckle down and take action.

    Good luck,

If you have never had any experience, it would be wise to join up with a course that can teach you the basics or possibly purchase one of the cheap ebooks. I have NO experience with this ebook yet, but you can see one here: http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...heres-how.html

This isn't my WSO, nor do I endorse it. It's just on the same spectrum of where you are heading.

You can find the WSO forum here: http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...-offers-forum/

Just remember, not everything is legit. You want to do research before just jumping into a product/course.

    Nope, not too late!

Pick a niche, get your site up, and start working on those backlinks. Sites can bounce up and down for months going through the Google dance which can really suck for timing since your site does run the risk of being on the outs right as the holiday shopping kicks in HOWEVER, make sure to have other sources of traffic in place.

You can use articles and web 2.0 sites to both backlink your site AND to drive traffic amongst other methods, until your site is stable and through that awkward new phase.

If you pick a niche that is evergreen and just happens to also be about an item people buy as a present for the holidays then you get some holiday traffic but you can also get consistent sales all year long.

Make sure your posts include lots of long-tail keywords, too, as those will be easier to rank.

Yeah, just do long tail keywords.

You are ahead of the curve if you act now for the Holidays.

The later it gets though, the LESS people act on ideas, because they think they are too late!

I've been surprised the last 2 years how some of my later (like mid-November) actions brought traffic and sales.

If you pick your keywords wisely I don't see why not. In my own experience I've noticed that it takes generally about three months of link building before I hit page 1 or 2.

Noooo, of course not. You have nearly 3 months left. As long as you get started now, you have every chance. I'm not suggesting you're going to have a top-ranked site for keywords like "make money online" or "how to lose weight" by Christmas, but if you want to rank for only mildly competitive or long-tail keywords, you have no problem.

(When I saw your title, I was wondering which "holidays" you meant ... and thinking that Yom Kippur is next week, so you'd need to get your skates on for that one).
