I don't get Flicker -- Should I Be Using it?

How is this related to making money? Well that old content is king thing.

Okay pictures are not the best content. Still it is content.

I was looking on my site today for pictures I posted in the past. I had used a Flicker Plugin. I take a lot of pictures and post them on my travel site.

The plugin sure helps make my pictures look great.

I don't know, every click on them is an exit link. The content is not on my site.

Am I missing it here? In order to keep displaying Flicker images I'm going to have to pay them as I long ago exceeded my free limit.

I'm also beginning to work on photo journal ebook that I plan to sell. I think I could gain some exposure on flicker and for that I can see the benefit but I don't know how much. It seems limited to me.

I've had so many people say using flicker is great for marketing. What am I missing?

Thanks!

Rusty, what you may be missing is that a lot of the people telling you Flickr is good for marketing are using someone else's Flickr images to enhance their marketing. Not marketing their product using images posted to Flickr. Did that make sense?

As someone posting photos, you might gain some benefit from requiring attribution if anyone uses your photos on their site. Specify that the attribution include a live link back to your site.

As for the exit links on your site, that's the cost of using an outside service to host your photos. For photos on your own site, you might want to look into one of the online storage services. Or even a cheap hosting account with a high storage allotment.

Thanks John, I just found your reply now. Yes that makes sense.

I wonder if hosting them on Amazon S3 would count as a backlink Good way to get my bandwidth stolen though.

Awww okay other peoples content. Naw I don't do that. Glad I didn't pay for it.
