Okay, everyone, I've been tinkering with Squidoo. I've built 5 Squidoo pages, and after a few weeks, they've generated....wait for it....

ZERO VISITS!

Now, I wasn't expecting to make huge gobs of cash or anything - not right away. But, come on.

Here's one of the lenses...

How to Find a Cheap Nintendo Wii

Would a few of you mind taking a look at it (at least I'll get a few visits! :rolleyes and then give me some advice on Squidoo? How can I get more traffic? Okay....how can I get ANY traffic?

Thanks!

p.s. Oh, I get pretty good traffic to my Suite101 articles, so I'm not totally clueless. I understand keywords. But, for some reason, I"m missing something with Squidoo. Somethin' ain't clickin. (Literally).

    - I'm sure you used related tags right?

    - Have you pinged the Squidoo RSS feed?

Pingler.com has 92 places to ping your RSS feeds.

    - Have you tried the 5 minute Squidoo Trick to supercharge your Squidoo lens?

You can google it "5 minute Squidoo Trick" and you should be able to get it cheap.

    Hope This Helps!!

    Hi Brian

You don't say how you've promoted the lenses but for starters try:

    Articles pointing to them
    Joining related Squidoo groups
Putting links to your lenses in (relevant) forum signatures
    Blog commenting

And get hold of some of Tiffany Dow's stuff on Squidoo as well.

Goto the SquidU forum and ask for some critiques. Not only might you get some good advice, but other people surfing the forum may decide to give your lens a look. How about Wii forums? Are you involved in any of those? There are a number of sites that you can "ping" your lens on. If you have an account on Stumbleupon, make sure to bookmark your lens. That will get you some short-term traffic.

Now the big question is, is your lens exciting or compelling enough to keep visitors there past a few seconds? Traffic won't do you any good if you can't keep them there reading.

I would recommend that you don't use the exact same verbiage for your lens title and Introduction module heading. Use one of them to drive home some compelling reason why visitors should read your page. You can't just be ho-hum about it. Generate excitement. Be different. Leave the boring lenses to other lensmasters - make yours exceptional.

Best of luck with it. - Russ

    Brian,

Squidoo is nothing more than just another way to make web pages.

If you just make em and then wait to see what happens you'll wait forever.

They don't do well unless you help them - the same as any other web page.

Not sure why you thought anything would happen just by making one, but I'm sure you wouldn't expect the same if you just made a normal web page and then watched it.

Squidoo is good for two things..

    1) Interception of traffic that YOU generate.. this allows you to connect with traffic, pre-sell them, and earn amazon/ebay/affiliate income on the side as you use the power of squidoo to drive this traffic and the following traffic to your main websites..

    2) Backlinks - self explanatory, really.

Squidoo is a great source of revenue for me.. because I generate the traffic that goes there by the use of long tail keywords and extra promotion externally.. articles, bookmarking etc.

More importantly, squidoo pre-sells my traffic on some of the benefits of whatever product I am promoting, OR, the benefits of one or more of my lists/newsletters... which leads them back again to my content/promotions

    Peace

This is what I do to get traffic in general, including to my Squidoo lenses:

    1. Use popular keywords (I know you know that one already)
    2. Ping my lens so it will get indexed as soon as possible
    3. Submit to RSS directories
    4. Stumble myself
    5. Announce to my followers on Twitter
    6. Article marketing
    7. YouTube (not always but if the topic allows)
    8. Press release (submit to free press release site)

I wouldn't choose an extremely competitive niche like Nintendo Wii to start with, Squidoo lensen can rank very well, but I'd pick smaller niches with less competitors, especially if you don't have your own network of sites to link your lenses with a few stronger links.

It's better to in the top 5 search results of google for a term that is only searched 10k times a month, than being on page 3 for a term that is searched 500k times.

I'm by no means a Squidoo pro, but i've found that Squidoo is an excellent source of traffic over time -- some of my lenses are completely hands off, and have been funneling visitors to my sites for a couple of years.

But when a lens is new, despite it being on a high-traffic site like Squidoo, you have to give before you get. The OPs have made excellent suggestions.

Just treat your lens as you would any other Web page: build traffic to it in the beginning, and you'll be repaid for years to come.

      Cheers
