Facebook's cont. to send data about users surfing habits back to FB after logged out

When you log out of Facebook, you might think that your web surfing activities are now a private affair between you and your browser, but Australian entrepreneur and hacker Nik Cubrilovic has discovered that Facebook's cookies continue to send data about users' web surfing habits back to Facebook after logging out:

Your description ( and that of the article ) is misleading --

#1, cookies don't 'send data' - the browser that stores the cookie sends the contents only when requested by the cookie originator website. This is not a continual 'upload of information' as is implied.

#2, "logging out" of facebook doesn't mean that the site does not still place and read cookies. The cookies may have different contents ( or may not ) but "logging out" makes no difference to the browser as to whether it stores a cookie or not.

If this concerns you, clear your browser cache and clear your cookies before you visit facebook.

The linked article, and the originating article, are crying wolf about something they evidently know little about - the way cookies and sites and browsers work. This isn't saying that FB hasn't had its hands slapped over privacy issues - it has and likely will again - but this isn't one of them, at least in the way it's described.
