How do you get your customers on your list?

We have heard the mantra hundred times: Following up with existing customers is one of the best ways to increase your income.

When you use Clickbank as payment processor, how do you get your clients to opt-in your list? Do you force them to sign up before they get to download your product? Or do you give them an option to choose to opt-in? And why?

Usually the best way to get opt ins is to give an incentive. Always try and think what's in it for someone to sign up and receive your e-mails. Something like a free "how to" PDF on something related to your product would be a great incentive.

I wouldn't force people to opt-in just to download your product though.

Here's a simple way to go about it:

    1) Create a free ebook, report or software to give away related to the niche you are promoting.

    2) Give it away on a landing page and ask for name and email.

    3) On the thank you page, re-direct it to the sales page of the product you are selling.

There are many ways you can get the prospect to opt-in before you even start selling.

Forced opt-in before downloading is quite a common method with Clickbank.

Other's tend to simply put a form on the download page.

Personally I use DLGuard (naturally), and so I have it set up so all my customers are automatically added to the tech support mailing list - no signups nessessary.

    cheers

Why not make a quick video as a bonus
and in it tell the customer it's in their
best interest to opt-in because you
will be sending them more great bonus
      products and tips.

I did this and opt-in conversion went
up 10% and that's just after a couple
      hours of adding the video.

      Yep, Sam knows his stuff.

Go with DLGuard and they won't need to sign up because they are automatically signed up with the email address they purchased the product with.

      Can't go wrong with DLG.
