Paypal Recurring payments question - as a merchant

I'm starting to re-sell domain names and I use paypals subscription button to make sales.

Now, while its very obvious that its a recurring yearly payment (very, very obvious) I'm still concerned that one year from now a small percentage of people will see a bill in their paypal and think "what is this? I didn't authorize this"

I know its stupid, but people can be like that at times. Jumping quickly to conclusions...especially with paypal.

That being said a simple solution I'm trying to work out is a warning 7 days before the re-bill that is emailed to them. I can't manually manage this of course - I was hoping maybe its possible to setup paypal to notify them in advance just to make sure people are up for the rebill. Because theres also the issue of people saying "Oh I didn't want the domain anymore actually" and disputing the new charge - even though on my end I"ll already have automatically paid my end of things as a reseller.

Any ideas? Anyone know whats possible in this way via paypal, etc?

If you have an auto-responder you can set what ever date you want the email to get out to said customer.

Just set the auto responder to send the message 353 days after the sale.

Don't think Paypal got that "remind 7-day in advance" feature.

As suggested by VinnyBock, sending such reminder using Autoresponder is a good way.

Alternatively, you'd need to integrate it with a billing system ie. paid script. Personally, preferred this method as the script should also take care of what to do (ie. deactivate/suspend the account) when the subscriber did not pay up or intended not to continue.

Yeah, the system would have to be set up on your end instead of PayPal's. Ideally it would also sync with your doman manager so that if the domain name is cancelled before that time, the email will not get sent.

But there may be a PayPal api where you could pull down a list of recurring charges. You could find ones set to renew within the next week and then send off the email. But that might be more complicated to set up than a simple autoresponder.

Just set auto responder to send them a email when you want to remind them of subscription
