What to do to my generic domain name?

Hello experts

I have a generic domain name, softwar(dot)es (can read "softwares").

It is one of domain hack just like google with goo.gl, youtube with youtu.be, delicious.com with del.icio.us, apple's iTunes with itun.es, Yahoo's blo.gs, bitly.com with bit.ly, and others like t.ag (which domain sold for $60k), cr.yp.to, e.xplo.it, list go on and on..

I know it is not great as software.com but I am looking for ways to brand the domain softwar(dot)es to increase the value.

Looking for ideas from fellow warriors. Would like to get some inputs on what to do.

I am thinking of either to create a forum related to softwares, or create a software directory or install a great customized software to the domain name.

Any idea?

Thanks.

.es domains dont sell often but they do sell. This should be listed at the usual places like Sedo & Afternic.....You could as well build it out as a software directory for different types (education, music, business) and have affiliate links to each type of software

      Thanks, that's a good idea.

One problem you are going to have is that software doesn't have a plural form, so "softwares" isn't actually a real word. So, the only value it might have is akin to a typo domain, but being split--softwar.es--as it is, it's not likely to have much value as a typo domain.

You may be able to build a software directory or some site related to software as you've mentioned, but upfront you may have a credibility issue since your domain will be technically incorrect.

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

Billions of Chinese who routinely use words such as "furnitures" when they attempt English would probably disagree with you.

I thought about that too, but if you did a quick search on google, there are almost 100Million search results with "softwares" in their domain names, titles, contents, etc.

To name a few: kcsoftwares.com, vcsoftwares.com, sun-softwares.com, gassoftwares.com which have decent number of visitors per month.

There are also many adword advertisors competing with the keyword "softwares".

Checking with google adwords tool, there are over 40k exact searches per month for "softwares" with more than $1 CPC.

Another note, Estibot values softwares.com $864k.

I agree with you. In addition to that, it is easily to remember and brandable. Also even shorter than software.com

Maybe I can approach software.com owner?

Yes, I need to take action immediately At the moment I am considering either software related forum or software directory.

But is there anyway I can get other people to contribute to the content instead of me myself have to 'write' the contents
