Hey guys,

I'm going to run a CPM campaign through an ad network, but sine this is my first try with this type of traffic i really don't know what to expect, so if you've done this type of advertising before, what kind of CTR did you got on your banners ?

I really have no idea, I was hoping about 0.7-1% , or is that considered very high as well ???

thanks a lot and have a great day

I think it depends more on what site the banner is located on and if it's properly targeting that market.

1% could be good, try a few different configurations and see if it goes up at all. Also, make sure you have enough data points before making up your mind.

I remember the good ol' days of 5-7% click through rates back in the late 90s. Gone are those days for good.

When you say "well designed", what are you talking about? These days, banners that are too well designed blur into the background. People have banner blindness. The highest converting banners now seem to be text only banners. A well placed text banner can get upwards of 1.5 to 2% CTR.

YES, u just dragged my attention to a very important point ...

I've seen those text based banners all over the place, I'll put together something similar because as u said people don't react to normal and colorful banners anymore, at least I don't

The banner design is only part of the equation. Where it is shown and how well it matches what the viewer is trying to accomplish are also important.

As an extreme example, you could have the best-designed banner in the world for a wedding site, but if it shows up on a gossip site and the viewer is a teenage boy looking for skin pics of celebs, it ain't gonna click.

On the other hand, a just-barely-decent banner on a page where a newly-engaged woman is looking for exotic places to hold her wedding could be gold.

Yeah that's tough to answer. Plenty of Fish, for example, generally has lower CTRs than Facebook (by a mile in some tests I've done)... however, the conversion can be much higher with POF in the right niches.
