Marketing expert... IM newbie. Advice please!

Fellow Warriors,

I've just taken the decision to pursue my lifelong interest in marketing via IM. I admit, I've been lazy. Until now I've paid others to build websites for me. One of my sites has 30,000 members but I never wrote a single line of code! (embarrassing but true...)

What I want to do now is create a bunch of sites that sell 1) 3rd party products (physical and digital) and a 2) self built digital products. I want to do this off my own bat - I don't mind paying for certain things but I really want to understand to do it by myself. My day job is sucking the life out of me, I hate it with a passion. My dream is to spend more time with my wife and kids and be 100% in control of my own income. I've got a degree in marketing and I've spent years working as a market research executive in an international blue chip and even more time as a negotiator and deal maker. I've got knowledge to share and loads of ideas. Besides business, negotiation, marketing and psychology my interests include martial arts and health and fitness. I would love to apply my knowledge towards making a living from the things that actually interest me. Know what I mean?

I've been a member of this forum for over 10 years (I had to change my username after the site upgrade a couple of years ago) so I understand the non tech stuff behind what works and what doesn't. My problem is... technical know how.

I would be supremely grateful to any Warriors who would put a marketing expert on the newbie road to success. I need to get a no bull, fast track, road map covering ALL the technical details from scratch (in lay mans terms) to:
- research keywords
- choose the right domain name
- how to set up wordpress, how to set up templates for maximum SEO
- how to create backlinks
- how to develop and create a list
etc
etc

you get the picture.... I have the product without the technical knowledge.

One thing I can say is I am supremely motivated, well educated and I remember those who help me. I WILL be successful in IM, it's just a matter of me applying myself. If anyone can help me I will owe them a favour. I always repay those that help me.

So please Warriors, educate me. Point me towards the best threads and War Room downloads (I'm a member there)!

Help me and I will do my best to help you.

Dave

    Hi Dave,

The question here is why? Why would anyone that really has his own business to run help you? What is in it for them? When you clear these questions I believe that you will be able to get some real help.

    Regards
    Mario

Hard to say in text without sound like an ass but... they would help because they have an interest in helping people get on their feet in IM. I have no problem learning but there is simply so much information on this site that it is hard to see the wood for the trees. Pointers to threads you might have subscribed etc would be appreciated. If I can help someone in return I will (once it doesn't involve writing false testimonials etc).

"One of my sites has 30,000 members but I never wrote a single line of code! (embarrassing but true...)"

Whoa! You gotta be kidding me.

I hope you mean a membership site. If you have a membership site with 30,000 members, my friend you DO NOT need any more advice on how to make money.

Simply monetize those members by offering them products of value, and rinse and repeat through other niches. You don't need to know any more than that to be super successful. You already have the formula in your hands.

Go and examine what you did right (including outsourcing the technical aspects) and focus on building your current business.

An awful lot of Warriors would truly love to have a membership site with 30,000 members. I just noticed that you said, "one of my sites." You already have the golden goose of knowledge, my friend. You need nothing else.

Oh, one more thing. I see you're a member of the War Room. You're over looking an goldmine. The War Room has all the resources that you're looking for in your post.

Easier said that done with this one:-) To monetise this site will require a serious investment, it's a music network that host bands. I'm in the process of trying to sell it at the moment. It pretty much took on a life of its own without any SEO etc - I don't mind PM'ing anyone the address but Id rather not put it in the forum as I have options to sell it or partner and further develop it at the moment. I actually got govt funding (matched funds) but had to put in at least 10K of my own money which at this point is not a runner. My business partner went bust (he was the tech guy) so I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place there. Regardless of that site, I still want to develop my other bits and pieces (that site hasn't been monetised - to do so will cost a lot of money given the nature of the site). I'm sick of being at the mercy of the tech guys. The music site is 100% full on tech coding - custom flash players, advanced database coding and integrating php with.NET - wayyyyy beyond me. That's why I want to look at smaller sites that can get up and running my myself.

PS I have a post in the JV forum looking for a Warrior/Tech expert http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...r-partner.html

If it's ok - I'd rather keep the music network thread separate to this one (you can ping me over there about that if you want). Any advice on getting started from a technically challenged perspective would be great.

          OK Dave

For the sake of argument, how about you take a step back. Effectively you\re looking for NEW ways to take advantage of the internet.

For this purpose you will need to consider yourself a Newcomer *to new ideas and methods of income).

If you have a little (not a lot) of cash to spend (less than $!00 per month), I can pint you to a UK based coach who has an impeccable reputation. This IS someone who cares about his students, knows the ropes, and can teach you in plain language how to move forward quickly.

His charges are reasonable ($47.00 per month I think), but he does expect payment. After all, like all of us, he's running a business. With your backgound, and the niche you're working in, I'm sure he'll have no problems getting you on the right road.

If this is of interest to you, let me know, and I will PM his details to you. I have a few other connections which may interest you too.

A genuine good guy, as you'll quickly discover.

          Cheers
          Alan

    Hi Dave,

as per your post, I can see you are not a newbie, you're just not too good at technical stuff, but you don't even have to be.. I can see that you perfectly understand which way you have to go to build your online business and quit your 9-5 job..
You just need strong decision, and persistence.. and all other resources are in the war room.. you just need to let go

I wish all the best, and luck
