Good Grief - How Do Fiverr Sellers Make Any Money!?

I finally went over and looked at Fiverr. It seemed like a pretty good place to get stuff done, but I was concerned with the quality when I saw so many offering to do work for $5.

Then I read the "How It Works" page.

Fiver get $1 ... that's 20% right off the top.

Paypal gets maybe 2.5% to 3.0% fot eh remaining $4.

That leaves the seller with $3.78 approximately.

Some of that stuff may take several hours and the net has got to be low for anyone.

Is there a back end for these folks? Is it a lead generating system? How do folks earn any decent money at this?

.

If you have a verified US account you get $3.92, the paypal fees are much less due to how the payments are set up.

But yes, you're right, it's peanuts.

For some, it's a much needed extra bit of money for not much work, depending on what they do for their gig.

It's also a way for some younger people who don't do IM just to get some extra play money doing something fun. If you look around the site you'll see what I mean.

Also, you'll see a few there who actually have their system so streamlined that they make huge amounts of money from fiverr (relatively). I'm talking about the people who have thousands of feedback with thumbs up over less than a year. Also, not everyone leaves feedback so there are a few who do obviously make very decent money with fiverr.

And also, as you said, some do actually use this as lead generation and upsell fiverr clients on more pricey related services even though fiverr does not like you to do this. But people do it and some have been quite successful doing that, as well.

I think some smart ones may have a backend system in place, but those are probably very few.

For most of them, it's probably an "outsourcing to India", or "broke college student" kind of thing. Where $3.78 is a decent amount of money for what they are doing.

Some of them are making good money considering what country they live in...

If their countries average monthly income is $300 a month, then they don't have to do too much in a month to meet their needs...

I would think a lot of people only do gigs there in the hopes that someone will like their work and want to hire them full time...

Who knows...I just know I like hiring people over there to do minor stuff that I want done fast and cheap...

      Anyways...my 2 1/2 cents...

    It's not $3.78, it's $3.92, as I said.

But I don't know if it's the same for non-verified accounts and also accounts overseas.

Anyway, you also have to remember some of the people making a good living on fiverr live in places like India and they need much less money than those in Western countries to have a higher standard of living. If it takes someone an hour to do work for $3.92 that is much better than minimum wage in some countries.

But the smart ones are doing something that takes 5-15 minutes, as it is.

The smart ones that are promoting their own gigs set up their gigs on dozens and dozens of clones and charge more for the gig.

Over the last 6 months I have perfected this biz model and have made a ton of money doing this

I felt the same way the first time I saw Fiverr. Seemed like a big waste of time, but I understand there are marketers who are able to leverage these almost free gigs into some real money - at least that's what some claim. But to work for $3.80 net otherwise is crazy!

    • Some people would say laboring all day over a sales letter or squeeze page with no cash to show for it at the end of the day is just plain crazy.

It's allllll in the backend. I snapped up a couple of clients from there. It doesn't pay much at all, plus guess what the most annoying part is? You have to wait 14 days () to get your money.

In many countries outside the US, $3.98 for a few hours work is a decent wage.

Yes, many gigs are loss leaders that get you on a mailing list or upsell services.

But there are also a lot of people from India, Pakistan, Philippines and Eastern Bloc where the cost of living and available local work is very low.

If you find a way of doing whatever you're offering in 2 minutes, and you get enough orders then that will be how you make money.

But I hear you. I offered a few backlinks and article writing gigs and I got about 4 orders and it took more time than it was worth.

The charges that the website take may looks high, but thanks to paypal he getting the commission twice.

I have been working on different solutions on my website to reduce these fees for seller.

some fiverr seller do sell the gig for $5 on fiverr and charge more for it on other gig sites.

Hmmm, Let's see, I can pay "x amount" for a lead or get paid 3.92 for a lead. I personally will take as many as Fiverr can send at that price.

So you're building a list of buyers via Fiverr plus getting a few bucks per pop. That's not bad. Interesting list building.

I've bought a few gigs (10-20 range) and no one ever has followed up so I believe a lot folks on Fiverr are just settling for the $3.92 per gig.

I used to do Fiverr gigs. I wrote 250 words SEO article (takes about 15 minutes to do). Somehow I had 100% positive feedback even though my writing is nothing special.

Over the course of two months, I was hired by 3 serious marketers that needed about 5-7 articles per week. I was charging them $10 for every 500 words and it added up to a pretty decent extra cash by the end of the month.

It took me less than 1 hour to write each article (in theory, I was making more than $10/hour) So, yea, people can earn something worthwhile with Fiverr if they know how to sell themselves right.

If anyone is thinking on doing Fiverr gigs, my advice to do choose something you don't find tedious. The only reason I quit was because I had to research topic I have zero interested in reading about in order to come up with the articles and the boredom literally made me fall asleep on my keyboard.

I ran a campaign on fiverr about a year ago that did pretty well. As others said,
if you don't have a solid backend, you're screwed.

My campaign was a 'Get indexed in google' for $5. At the time, I had a software
that got folks indexed so it wasn't time consuming at all. Just plug in their URL
    and let it go.

On the backend, after they opted it to my list, where was I got them for more
quality link building, plugins and SEO courses.

    Worked out pretty well.

Yep- Fiverr is a great way to gain clients. It has gotten me plenty of private clients over the last few months. I offer a service that lends itself to repeat customers. (BMR article writing)

I don't mind providing a service for $5 as long as its something I can do quickly and efficiently and (if done manually) be something that I enjoy doing. That said, I would much rather you buy from my website rather than on Fiverr because I get to keep more of the money. Those extra $1 add up!

Fiverr has devalued a lot of the work, and people, in the IM space.

Not that I'm complaining, really, what I used to pay $30-60 for daily, I can now get done for $5.

The downside to this is that Fiverr has basically told the IM community that the skills used in link building campaigns, writing original articles, video editing, press releases, voice overs, web design etc etc.. even products we create and sell as WSO's are worth no more than $5.

      Not really.

Great writers, graphic artists, etc. still go for substantial bucks. They're not advertising on Fiverr.

The people who are on Fiverr (for the most part) are not great writers, they are people who think they can write. They are not highly skilled graphic artists, they are people who took a class in logo creation once.

And you know what? That's okay. Because you don't always need the world-class professional.

There is a guy who I just bought his fiverr gig, has 2300 positive reviews no negative, (you know not everyone rates people )
has like 200 waiting to be filled, has done like I am sure 10,000 bucks on this gig alone
I am sure that they do it with auto software so it takes them minutes to do each client .
If they are getting 20 clients per day, at roughly 4 bucks net per client, hell thats nothing to sneeze at, assuming it doesnt take them all day to do it, (outsource)
