Articles Republished Without Proper Credit- What to Do?

Hi fellow warriors,

I am working on a new website for months and continuously writing/posting original contents. This month I finally ranked at page 1 of g.oogle, though my ranking is not really stable. Sometimes I ranked # 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 on page 1 of g.oogle on the main keyword used on the domain name and some keywords used on my articles.

Knowing that some of the articles posted on my own website are already indexed by g.oogle, I decided to submit my articles to EZA and other article directories for more exposure.

What makes me angry for 3 days now is that 2 websites came up outranking my website on g.oogle and these websites are ranking on articles I wrote. They republished my articles without proper credit. One website published my articles as if he is the author, my links were omitted and promoting his own product links. Another adsense website credited me as the author but did not include my links.

There are no contact infos on both websites. I tried "whois" but all I can see is that they are registered at godaddy. I tried emailing them using webmaster@websitedomainname or admin@websitedomainname but my emails returned with delivery error.

This is not the first time, I've experienced this in the past. Through the years, I've been sending emails to many webmasters/publishers stealing my contents some were sensitive enough to comply and correct their wrongful acts but some are stubborn and keep stealing. I just get tired.

Since g.oogle panda, I started writing long and well researched articles for this new website, that is why I am so angry and frustrated to see these websites stealing my contents. Researching for keywords and writing a unique well researched article is not easy these days and these people just steal and outranked me just like that?

How can I reach or contact a website owner without contact infos and all I know is that they are registered at godaddy? Thank you very much

The domains are registered at godaddy, but who is hosting them? find out the host and send them a notice.

Yes i thought about that but I am confused because usually the domain server would appear like NSnumber.hostgator.com something like that but for these websites it's like this :
NSnumber.theirowndomainname.com. What appears on their server name is not the hosting company server name but also the name of their own domain name.

Nearly all hosts have an abuse department. Once you see who is hosting them, send an email to their abuse department, which is almost always abuse@whateverthedomainis.com

You can use a tool to find who hosts any site, try who-hosts.com

Thanks this is very helpful in tracking their website hosting services. I already emailed their hosting provider. I'll wait and see. Thanks again luvtrees

It does suck and makes one want to vaporize the abuser ...

But you have to ask, is it worth it? How much time and energy are you spending on this justice that will most likely never end?
In the time it takes you to be pissed off and to finish shaking your stick at them, how much product could you have completed in that time? And this is not to mention the mental fatigue at being angry at these "idiots". They're not worth your time and they will never last long.
It's just part of the game...

What I do when I feel the urge to fight back is use a form letter template where I insert their information and send it to "admin" and "webmaster"@theirdomain.xxx (which are often catch all addresses)
If I'm feeling real aggressive I'll report it to Google.
And then I forget about it...

Look at it this way, if they are using your content to an extreme, then it must be good!

It looks like the who-hosts.com is not giving correct information on whose hosting the website. I tested it on my own website and the hosting info I got is not correct.

Maybe that is why no response until now to the email I sent.

Any suggestion to know the hosting of a website whose infos are protected.

      Thanks

If there are affiliate links on their site, you can also report them to the affiliate program and get them kicked out... They generally pay attention when you affect their money.

Just send a DMCA to their host. The host will make them remove it. Instructions and sample DMCA here:

I shared some thoughts about this on a thread that got buried very fast

Your content is most likely being scraped. Here's a thought, kindof a way to get them back. make links within your content pointing to your own site. This way when it's scraped and posted into the thieves site they are unknowingly giving you backlinks toward seo and that also might get clicked through. I thought about doing this but my problem is not resulting from content being scraped off my own site, but more often from ezine articles submissions. Infuriates me. They always replace my author box with one of their own.

This is the most frustrating thing for me. I've been trying my luck with article syndication for the past couple of months and around 8 or 9 have been picked up by webmasters, but none of which have credited my site.

Is there an effective way to get around this? Is it best to contact them and use scare tactics or what?

This probably won't work. Content scraping software usually removes any embedded links. Good idea though.

It's worth trying "info" and "support" at theirdomain.com, too.

If you don't want to spend a bunch of time trying to track them down, you can always file a DMCA right with Google by going here. It will only take you a few minutes. It may not get them to completely remove the content from their site, but Google can remove their page from its search results.

And if you're wondering whether your form will get lost in the shuffle, it shouldn't. I've done this successfully several times on behalf of my own content that was stolen the exact same way

My suggestion (take it for whatever you like)

First plug their domain in at who-hosts.com (as recommended previously by Raquel and is in the instructions provided by sbucciarel), this will probably give you the name of their hosting provider.

Next grab your DMCA letter courtesy of sbucciarel (above as well)

Then complete that letter for the offending site/pages, and fire it at their host.

Result should be, once the host processes the complaint... The pages should happily disappear.

If you want to, also go grab their affiliate links and report them to the appropriate affiliate programs.

and then of course there's the filing with Google as NicoleBeckett was so kind as to provide.

My estimate of time to achieve these (not including going to the various affiliate programs) is probably about 15-20 minutes since you've already found the offender's pages.

Sad reality is that any time you post an article on ezine or another article site you're asking for your stuff to be stolen without permission. That's why I always keep my good articles for my site and throw up junk for article marketing so I don't care if it gets copied.

If it makes you feel any better, it could just be one jerk and everyone else is copying their stuff. I have innocently copied stuff that I had no idea had a copyright only to be contacted by the author month's later. As far as I knew, it was anonymous and free for reproduction.

The problem with doing that is that you then miss out on the opportunity to have your content syndicated by respectable and relevant websites and blogs that will give you good traffic and backlinks.

I think it's probably best to take the rough with the smooth and put your good content out there, and then just chase down the offenders who are stealing your work as and when you feel the inclination to.

Note that who-hosts.com will give you the name of the company who hosts the server typically. If the person has purchased hosting from a reseller or a reseller of a reseller, which is common, you won't get those reseller host names, just the main company who is actually hosting the site and owns and maintains the servers. That is my experience anyway.
