I think, it all depends on what you need article writing for. If you need it for high quality content I would recommend spending more per article. Real cheap articles I also tend to use but for websites which don't need high quality content.

If I'm building a serious product and need high quality content. I would recommend spending more to produce a great product.

I would love to know which sites don't need high quality content On those sites, you're short-changing your visitors right out of the box!

As for the OP's question, you have to think in terms of dollars and cents - from your writer's perspective. A quality 400-500 word article should take at least an hour or so to research and write properly. Then, you have to figure in some time for proofreading. If your writer charges you $5 for it, he's making $5 per hour (or even less, if it takes more than an hour to do everything). He could make far more money flipping burgers at McDonald's.

At that rate, your writer's focus isn't on quality. Instead, the focus becomes churning out as many articles as possible, so that your his hourly wage is higher. Do you really want to pay someone to "churn things out"? To me, that's just inviting articles that don't have any real research to them, don't have any real finesse in how they're worded, and are full of spelling and grammar mistakes. Remember, cutting out time means cutting out service. The first things to go are going to be the time spent researching and proofreading.

Expensive has always worked best for me and always will.

You get what you pay for.

People that charge more will tend to do more research, spend more time writing the article and the article will generally be better quality.

NOTE: I am not assuming that anyone that charges a small amount does not provide good quality, just stating what I have noticed

    Hi Steve,

It fully depends on what you need the article for. Cheaper articles are commonly used for backlinks and spinning.

If you're building authority, generally you need deeper research - which usually costs more.

HOWEVER - I suggest reading this thread: Why you should never pay more than $5 per article

There were good discussions about cheap writing versus higher-priced writing from many different perspectives.

Definitely a thread worth reading, even if Danielle did start it :-p

You will find he majority (not all) article writers who charge extremely low fees, use English as a second, sometimes even third language. They also live in countries where making $5 is the equivalent of a good day's wages.

What do you class as "expensive"? I agree $10 per article, compared to $2, may appear expensive, but the quality of the content is often not relative to the price.

The problem is, a lot of marketers commissioning articles have very little writing experience to judge the true quality of what they are receiving.

There are many highly experienced writers here on the Warrior Forum who charge $10 an article, and, in my opinion, could easily charge $25 and higher.

On the other hand, there are just as many whose writing abilities make $2 appear expensive.

I just bought some articles off iwriter.
They were definitely churned out because they only cost me $5 each and I got 5 of them back in under an hour and a half....

But the quality was astounding, perfect grammar and optimized.

Cheap work reflects in the quality. More expensive work tends to be of a higher quality (though it isn't always true). You may find a Warrior offering a special deal/discount to other warriors. Consider those if you see samples. Otherwise, others are right - you are going to get what you pay for.

One never knows, really. But certainly one can be buying stolen property, yes.

Most of the time, it's not really comparing like with like, looking at the output of cheap and expensive writers.

People buying $5 articles are often (I won't say "always") using the word "article" with a different meaning, and are buying it for a completely different purpose, from people buying $25/$50 articles. Many customers paying $5 (or less!) for an article are actually buying what some of us would call simply "A chunk of keyword-optimized text which will pass Copyscape and to which backlinks can be attached"; in other words, they're written for search engines rather than to attract human readers. This is, of course, typical of the SEO approach to what some people imagine is "article marketing" (but isn't really).

From the writer's perspective, these are generally bad clients to have. Typically their own businesses don't survive for the long term. These are, therefore, writers many of whom have to replace their own clients continually.

This is the main reason you see writers who create $5 articles continually advertising. You don't see so many writers of $25/$50 articles advertising for clients, not because there aren't any (as some wrongly imagine) but because they're often fully booked by regularly returning clients who know how to use the articles more successfully and productively, with the common outcome that their own businesses do survive.

Of course, I don't suggest that the "two sorts of articles" are typically the same quality, at all.

This discussion pops up time and time again and I am still surprised to find that very few people actually understand this point..

"$5/hour is a VERY good wage for a lot of countries in the world!"

So while it may be extremely difficult for a UK/UK writer to charge $5 for an article, a writer in a third world will be more than happy to spend 60-90 minutes, research a topic well and write a very good article.

Sure he isn't a native English speaker but so what? If he speaks and writes English as good as one, he'll be able to write good content for you for $5-$10 and make a lot of money for his standards.

I know, because I work with these writers. Now I am not saying that anyone who would $5 for an article is good. There's enough junk out there but not all cheap writers are junk.

So when you're in such a competitive market with people from all over the world, don't judge quality based on price. Do your research, ask for samples, references, etc. Reserve your judgement for when you've seen the quality for yourself.

when it comes to writing never compromise. Don't go for cheap writers your quality of writing may also be cheap go for something moderate. It would be ideal if you yourself write for your products after all who knows it better than you?

I haven't ghostwritten for a while now but I used to charge $20 per 500 words and I never had to advertise to get new clients because there was always a constant stream.

Personally, I have never paid any less than $15 for an article and I have also paid as much as $80 per article. It all depends on what you are looking for and what your aim is.

Like everything, there's a market for all different types of content. Some will buy and sell at $5 per article and some will buy and sell at $30 per article and that's just the way it is.

There are fine dining restaurants and there is fast food. Take your pick, but be cautious in any decision that you make when looking for a writer.
