What's a good host for a forum?

For the Warriors who are familiar with hosting a forum, could you recommend a good host? Also, how much does it cost monthly? What are some effective, generic ways of monetizing a forum?

I ask because I have a friend who runs a PBPRPG (look it up) forum on a free host, and he wants to move to paid hosting. It's a small forum with less than 50 members, but very active; it's about a month old, but already has nearly 10,000 posts. And most of these posts are several hundred words long.

    Here's a short article I wrote on setting up a forum

    may be helpful.

    You could always monetize it by selling private access to a special part of the forum like they do here.

    Also, adsense, affiliate products, make your own product, etc.

    For example, I have a vbulletin forum on a shared hosting account that isn't very active. Only 667 threads, 2,402 posts, and 1,029 members. Not much daily activity... So a shared hosting plan is fine for a small forum but you're going to want to be able to easily upgrade to a VPS when your forum starts picking up in popularity. Hostgator is a good option IMO.
