Confused !! Using Product name in the website URL

Hi All Warriors..
I recently came across a product that mainly tells affiliate to promote products that are searched by their name and then use the product name in the URL for your website.

I'm little confused. I've read it in WF that using a product's name in the URL may lead to the legal action against the webmaster and can result into the acquisition of the website by the product in concern or worse.

Pls suggest if I've to implement the principle mentioned above, how should I go around it. Has anyone used the above principle successfully w/o any trouble so far?

Pls share your experience and suggestions..

Harry

You can use your target keyword in your domain name (if its still available) ... you can use a generic term from your niche ... but DON'T use a trademark name.

Just because an IM product tells you how to do something, doesn't mean it's sensible to do it. Anymore that it's sensible to murder someone just because a "who done it" book tells you how to commit murder.

If you use a copyrighted term in your domain name you risk having the site taken from you. Whether or not that will happen will depend on how zealous the particular company is in pursuing copyright violations.

Even if they don't take down your site, it's usually a short term business model, especially if you are using a specific model name as your domain name.

Find a more generic, related search term that will continue to be used.

For example - instead of using "companynameproductname.com" use "32inchflatscreentv.com". No copyright violations and much more adaptable as new models are released.

    I agree - product names are a big no-no.

I know some guides say you should promote the model number e.g. Samsung 1263534TYH TV you'd just use the end number bit for your domain. But I would also do your own checking up on advice like that too.

Nope I would not do that.

Problem is that if you say, use "nikeshoes . com" or whatever, for your domain name, Nike or hatever the name of the brand will most likely be something trademarked.

Could you get away with it? Maybe. People probably do all the time.

But it's not a good idea if you want to rest easy at night...in my opinion.
