B-but, it was on the news! You know, News 8 of Everywhere. Of course, Facebook couldn't be bothered telling you directly, even though they have no way of charging you without your payment information, which is why some random is doing you the favor of informing you. So nice of them.

          Amazing isn't it.

FB don't mention it and Google have just released competition there way and yet a smidgen of Chinese whisper and a whole bunch of mugs fall for it.

Thanks, I've just figured why scammers are successful at scamming, even with the most see through of attempts.

Look at the login page I believe it says "It's Free and always will be"
So Facebook won't be charging for any membership anytime soon.

I hope many people didn't fall for this. Facebook would never charge a fee for being a member. Essentially, they make millions if not billions leveraging Facebook members. If Facebook charged a fee for being a member, it would only hurt their bottom line.

  • Here in Italy that hoax is really famous. The problem is that here a good 90% of people trust the message and start to share it over the web, the phone and every system available...
Also if Facebook, on the homepage, states that Facebook will be ever free to join and to use. Incredible!

    See you,
    Alessandro

It's so successful because it prays on the fear emotion. The fear that if they don't take action, and copy and past it they're going lose their Facebook page and have to start paying to access the site.

So what does this tell us, well it basically shows you how fear forces people to take action even if that action doesn't make sense.

Fear is one of the most powerful emotions into driving someone to do something, they'll put it off unless there's something to lose by not doing it.
