How many posts before launch?

Hi all,

Quick question. Been building up my blog and writing some good content to fill it up and make it interesting. I think I'm steadily approaching a launch date, but I figured I'd ask how many posts/columns I should have before launching. I only have 3 categories at the moment, with a good mix of content for each category. What's a good number? Or is it more based on personal comfort? Any suggestions or opinions would be greatly appreciated!!!

You need 1 post to launch a blog. For affiliate sites, this could be your unmonetized "Sale" post. Google likes "fresh" content, so try to make posts every three days to keep their spiders coming back at a steady rate. And as always, SEO the living crap out of each post!

You don't need a lot of categories, but they help with SEO. Just blog your heart out and don't worry too much about about them!

What were you thinking in terms of a "launch"? Were you going to send out a press-release? Start putting the link in your signature?

As topgold has suggested, there are no hard and fast rules here - whatever you feel most comfortable with.

If you asked Yaro Starak or Chris Garret (very successful bloggers), they might tell you to get 10-20 solid "pillar"/"flagship" type of posts up before directing traffic to your site. Makes sense - since you obviously want to make a really good first impression.

But of course, it all depends on what you are trying to accomplish!

What exactly do you mean by "launch", Aubaine? I think it isn't easy for people to answer your question without knowing this.

That sounds like more than I normally have before I start promoting a new niche blog, but how exactly are you planning to "launch" it?

Personally when I work on blogs I like to have 5-10 posts pre-written. I only launch with one post up, then post another one every few days. By having 5-10 posts written already it gives me a nice buffer so I can make sure I'm posting at a steady rate.

This is a big key I think that a lot of people should following. Once you go online you are launched but have content ready before you go online and post it up in a regular basis.

Why wait? Open the doors unless you're planning a big fancy launch of some sort.

Hi Aubaine, you definitely shouldn't wait to launch, as many others have chimed in already. You're ready right now! So post it up in your signature line and we'll all jump on board and christen it with our comments.
