I have a shopping page on my blog were I promote 3 products that I really like. One of them I really like and I emailed the guy behind the product to ask him if he would be interested in a join venture as I have a superb ebook and he has a big list.

he sent me this message

Hey Carol,

I might be up for promoting it if you can show good conversions. What's your sales page?

I emailed him back ( god somedays I feel so out of my depth) and said honestly, the book is really good but Im new to this. I am working on getting a sales page asap..... floundering again! did I get to ahead of myself

Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? There's absolutely nothing wrong with being honest about your situation - perhaps this will end up making a good impression on him. Even if not, I'm sure he'll still be willing to work with you once you get a bit more experience are start generating some sales.

Many people wait until everything is "perfect" (which of course almost never happens - lol) before doing anything, so hats off to you!

And no, I'm not purposely following you around and replying to all your posts btw! LOL

Not such a crucial blunder at all.

At the very worst, you're building relationships with fellow-marketers, which is always a potentially useful and helpful thing to do, as well as leaving the door open to future opportunities. And you never know - when you next reply to him offering him a copy of your e-book, he might love it. There was no downside here.

And like Bentley I'm also not following you around and making a point of replying to your posts (not even just because I like your blog) ...

Carol, I'm really proud of the action that you're taking!

Typically it's good to have a sales page and some solid conversion stats before you approach someone for a JV, especially someone with a big list. Reason being that from their point of view, they have their own criteria for promoting a product, one of them being the profit motive of course, and as you will have realized it's more professional when you do have these stats on hand. Understand that they are busy people too, no doubt your product is top quality but they just need some additional information to make their decision.

I remember writing a post asking Warriors what the key factors are in making a JV decision some time back. Based on that poll, I found out that it ultimately it boils down to the quality of the sales page, the % conversions, the $ of the affiliate commission and how good your "swipe email" (that's the email sales copy you provide them) is. That's what the majority of the responders said anyway. Feel free to post up a question along similar lines, it'll certainly help you to be prepared for your JVs.

Crucial blunder? Nah, not at all. You just learned something, right? You learned what someone would be looking for in a joint venture. You are now equipped with the knowledge of how to go about setting one up, either with this person or someone else in the future. That hardly sounds like a crucial blunder to me. There's nothing stopping you from approaching him again after you have your sales page up and all, right?

thadbong how good is your name ! I tried not to cry, really I did but I busted my ass these last 6 days and when someone you dont know reaches out and says I am proud of you it jsut makes life worth living.

I do these online tarot readings all day..... hard work but I am brilliant at it. The money is rubbish but the satisfaction is massive. I want financial freedom again.
having it and losing it is horrendous.

So yes I push myself to just keep going and going and learning as fast as I can.

I have given a lot of women today all my energy and enthusiasm and joy.

my son missed his train home so went to his dads and I wont see him for a week and I confess I was about to indulge in some self pity. My man is away in Brazil and I feel a bit lonely.....

your words were like balm on my soul and now i find I have energy to do at least another couple of hours work......... thank you its means the world to me to have found this incredible place, I cant take in how generouous and funny and brilliant some of you are.

ok enought of the oscars speech...... I need a bloody darn good sales page writer

    any ideas anyone ?

I would reply back that you are new but think your book has value and ask if he would skim it and see if he might be interested then. if he is too busy he likely won't but if he has time he might agree.

Either way i suspect once you get the sales page and some info on conversions he will listen then as he listened now. If he decides to take it for a read and likes it he might take charge in a way and help you so you both make money.

lordauric ......yes I will send him a copy and ask him to skim it. great idea. sorry I missed your reply first look xxxx

Ken once I read all the fabulous support responses in here I did go back to him, keeping my emails super very brief and did just that, you guys made me a bit audaucious.

Patrick what a good question. I thought my blunder was lack of experience shining through and I would lose a good contact by showing this..... however it seems to be turning out quite well for me!

Carol, we've all been where you are right now and I can promise you this, if you keep putting in the effort and refuse to give up on your dreams ever, nothing can stop you.

You are so much better than you give yourself credit for. Just understand that it takes time, sometimes it really pays not to rush things, just take it one day at a time. You'll get there.

Oh, don't forget to celebrate the small victories no matter how insignificant they may seem. Use every excuse to affirm yourself and it'll make a world of difference.

What part of what you did do you think is a blunder?

Hey Carolf, ah ok. I think you did GREAT!

In my opinion it is MUCH better to be upfront and let people know you are new and looking for help. I was pleasantly STUNNED by the amount of help I was offered when I contacted other company owners telling them I was new and was looking for help if they could. (Different industry than internet marketing)

I in turn helped two other people start their own companies. Some would say we are competitors but to me we all helped each other and we all benefited even though none of them were joint ventures.

I don't take to that trying to fake how well established you are or how big your company is. It may work for others but for me I need to be upfront and honest or it just doesn't work for me.

thanks PatrickP its so true.... in fact someone asked me recently for help with a facebook page and just said honestly ..... I am new to this can you help me and I said a big fat yes as its actually really a great feeling to help someone that is new.

ok its the weekend and I am putting my mothers hat back on and taking my daughter shopping tomorrow. I am loving being the mother of an adult at last, my kid started uni and is all grown up...... life is so sweet.

the power of teams. I love being in this tribe of warriors. What a fantastic archetype it is and one I need a lot.

Trust me people respect those who take chances. I'd rather have a n00b with an idea that rocks than a vet with a crappy idea every day.

A good idea can be polished and made to work. A turd is a turd no matter who it comes from.

hmmmmm if we only had an app to tell all of us if an idea is good or bad lol

Then again people thought going to the moon was a bad idea, trying to fly was a bad idea and on and on so WHO really decides what is a good idea or a bad idea?

Maybe it is like when a person says they are looking for someone with a good sense of humor. In reality what they mean is someone with a sense of humor JUST LIKE THEIRS! HA!

PatrickP, I suspect she just got intimidated when something cam up that she hadn't anticipated. She wasn't fully prepared for her part of the joint venture, so she figured she had done something really wrong. In reality, it's all part of the learning process.
