Making Money From Photoshop

Hi,

I have various skills in Photoshop. I have a particular interest in retouching, restoring and manipulating photos to enhance/improve them. I know there are people out there who will pay for people to retouch and edit photos but how do I find these people? How do I let people know I am available to help them out?

Any ideas? I would be nice to earn a little money from something I consider a hobby.

    Maybe you could try something like Friends Reunited and see if you can market to people there. Or Google the words Family Tree and see if there are any sites that store past images of important families. Or you could even try approaching WW2 charity/reunion/memorial sites, I expect they might have some important historic photographs in need of restoration.

      Some good ideas there, however, I think if I post on a reunion/memorial site saying I can fix old photos for money, that I would get banned as a lot of forums don't allow advertising. What do you think? My editing skills extend far beyond old photos, I can touch up models for example.

        They were just some ideas off the top of my head. I can't see a big market for "models", given most "models" have photographs taken by professionals that are typically touched up anyway.

    Advertise your skills.

    You can do it several ways online.

    1. Build a site with your portfolio
    2. Advertise on free ad sites
    3. Pay for advertisement
    4. Establish yourself on online photo forums

      I have a site here it's very basic and it's uploaded to my ISP webspace. How do I make some simple changes to allow people to find me via search engine?

      I can post an ad on gumtree I suppose. I can also post on some photoshop forums and get recognised too. Paid advertisement I am not sure about, it would likely be expensive and I don't know if I would get much interest. I put an ad in a shop window for 2 weeks but didn't hear anything back.

      I shall check out the other suggestions like fiverr and elance!

        I have an upcoming product that might end up including 1000+ images total.

        I'm trying to have this in motion by the first of the year (2012), everything is still in the planning stage, I've been looking at fiverr to maybe hire some help with this project.

        I can do all the image editing myself, I just need someone to help ease the workload. If a bulk price is right, I might outsource all the image work.

        PM me for more details, If your serious & dependable, maybe we can setup a couple of test projects. It's a little more involved than just Photoshop, but nothing anyone with good Photoshop skills can't handle.

    Start off with fiverr, post a few gigs, if your smart about it, put up a video (that draws in more peoples attention), especially if you can screen capture you doing your work in accelerated time. My gf is a professional photog and a master of photoshop, this was what i was trying to convince her to do (yet she hasn't acted on it yet :0)

    Also post your resume on odesk elance, etc. and look for jobs. Build a reputation and network.

      Yes, fiverr is a good place to start to let people know of your skills.
      And of course, have your own website, place it as your thread signature, and start to give people advice on IM forums sites like this one. Build up credibility and people will click your signature website url, good luck

    Apply niche marketing techniques...initially to determine supply and demand (keywords)...no searches...no market, but you probably have more of a market than you realize...plus your photoshop skills might be applied in areas of web design such as headers and logos, also design of ebook covers and other eproduct and regular product packaging.

    True George, my skills can apply for logos for sure, but web design, I am not so sure as my website building/designing is basic at the moment.These marketting techniques... how do you mean? words in my HTML code to increase searches?

    Perhaps for the first time you could market it in Fiverr, or you can provide a free first in WF. Once you have lots of good reputation, you try to open services on the Warrior for hire.

    Offer services (design) and products and you can live comfortably once you get established.
