Does anyone know of any reliable free Web Hosting companies?

Does anyone know of any reliable companies which provide free web hosting? I want to be able to use my own domain name.

I know there are a few of variable quality but I was wondering if we could make a list up any free ones with good reputations?

Reliable and Free don't usually go well together. Why do you need it to be free?

Lol, I was about to post the same thing when I read the title. Hosting is around $4/mo for one domain...is that really going to set you back?

I already have paid hosting for my main site. I wanted an alternative host to test out a few things. I don't expect them to be brilliant but passable will be fine.

    Bluesquares

So pick2's not the name of the host?

Who are you hosting with now? These days most hosts allow multiple domains on one account.

If you want a free host, I'd say stick to Blogspot or Wordpress.

I personally wouldn't touch the other free hosting companies with a 10-foot pole.

Here's a free host that I used to use. I never had a single problem with them, and they're quite reliable. free PHP web hosting, no ads or banners, AFMU.com. I had my first ever website hosted with them. Control panel is great with many features you will find on any other host. No ads, banners or any other nonsense.

One things to watch out with free webhosting, is that some require you to register a domain with them or transfer the domain to them, usually at some amazingly high price.

One I just looked at required a domain registration or transfer at UDS$30 a year for a .com domain name .. OUCH!!!

especially when you can pick up the same domain at Godaddy or NameCheap for less than $9.. Sometimes even less is you use some of their discount codes..

Thanks for the tips so far guys! People are put off by the free tag, but you can get some surprisingly reliable and capable Hosts that are free.

I've found that 50webs.com is one of the best sources, but you will need to have a few banners on your site in return! They can upgrade you after a while to bannerless hosting for a small fee, but its still the best free service I've found!
