Newbie looking for traffic and email marketing help.

I'm new to the internet game and would like some advice on 1) how to go about driving traffic to my website and hopefully conversions and 2) what is the best way to start an email campaign when you don't have enough of a following yet. I was told that I could purchase a list but the email marketing companies prohibit purchased lists. Are there strategies to get a concentrated list (pet owners) that the email marketing companies wouldn't frowned upon? The site is an online pet supply store, selling pet foods, toys, treats, beds, etc. I buy products from different manufacturers so not my own unique products.

Thanks for your advice.

    Hi there.

What you could do is try purchase a solo ad in an email list that has members on your niche.

You should be on a few of those lists that deal with your target audience? If so approach the list owner with a request for a solo ad. It shouldn't cost too much but make sure that the content you provide for you ad is of good value to the list subscribers. Also provide something of value for free (maybe a report or similar) to the subscribers to entice them to click through to your site.

Once they on there be sure to provide them with an optin form so you can capture their email to your list and once they are confirmed, send them to the thank you page so they can get their free download.

This is just one of the ways of doing it. However it can build up your list fairly quickly and once you got a bigger list of targeted readers, then getting repeat traffic to your site is just a matter of sending a message to them.

The do or die trick here though is to be sure that you provide value! Without providing value, you will not get far. The more value you provide, the better the relationship is that you build, which makes selling, up-selling, cross-selling etc a breeze. The begin to trust you and acknowledge you as an expert in your field.

    Hope it helps.

  • I tried my best to explain why you need an aweber account in my free report on how I sold my website for $50,000.

I'm really excited to see someone who gets it and knows that they need the email campaign in order to be successful.

Read my book, it's totally free (no sign ups).

Chris, that report actually is a decent read. Aside from the fact I am anti free which creates a bias in me, I'd say sell it all day for $5. at a minimum. I like how you set it up and recommend poochcfd23 and anyone else reading this look into it.

Hi there - I think you should perhaps look into ways of using social media - Facebook, Twitter etc. - to develop your online presence and build your list. Like you, I'm new to this game, so can't give you specific advice, but the word on the street appears to be that companies can't afford to ignore social media and need to get in there. Ultimately, it could be one of the most powerful ways to relate to your customers and build your brand.

There are lots of marketers out there with expertise in using social media, so I'd go seek their advice. Good luck with your business - I've got dogs and cats myself so might be buying from you one of these days (if you provide good value, of course!!)

    Kind regards,

    Sue

Hello again - another idea for you - if you haven't already done so, how about signing up to some popular forums for people interested in pets and building your reputation by responding helpfully to queries etc. The expert I'm being mentored by at the moment, who has made LOTS of money online, made his first dollars this way. It's also a great way to keep abreast of what your potential customers are interested in, so you can use if for ongoing market research, too! If you're not sure how to go about it, there are lots of articles on forum marketing available freely on the web.

Honestly, pick your hobby/passion. I'd start in that niche and frequent forums based on that niche/topic. Find something to promote (paid product) and make up a signature.
I started doing this way before forums were "the big thing" like 10 years ago and I swear they have the absolute best buying traffic IF you can talk/relate/help with their issues and questions.
Solos in your niche as Zorosa mentioned would work also if you have the money. Most people don't give up their "buyer" list unless they throw some sort of extortion fee out there. However if they have something more newsletter based and can show you an open rate that can somehow be verified something like that might be worth your while. That's mainly how I did my email marketing for a while. The prices are normally similar however you get a lot less space than you do with traditional solo's - sometimes only a 3-5 line classified idea.
Don't discount anything aside from most traffic exchanges. Giveaways have been helping some newer members i've been interacting with decently however most people from giveaways are mostly in for the "freemium" aspect everyone is so obsessed with.

    Hope that helped

  • Marketing is about figuring out MARKETS.

What can you do better than someone else? What can you offer another person? What is your skillset.

If you think that you need traffic and HOPE for conversions you might as well throw in the towel now. There are 100' of thousands of newbies trying to Make it Online.

The few who will make it understand that it's not about YOU, it's about THEM.

So figure out what you can offer to other people that creates REAL value. The world doesn't need another website full of Ads.

The reason people fail at Internet Marketing is because they have NO IDEA WHAT MARKETING IS... THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT A MARKET IS... AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO DO MARKET RESEARCH.

Building a site is simple, finding affiliate programs is simple, figuring out what people want isn't that hard.

But figuring out how to find people ready to buy, getting yourself in front of those people, with a compelling offer... well that is kind of hard.

And there are plenty of people ahead of you that you have to move past to do it.

It's not a game, and there are already so many in the Pet Niche.

How can you really define your Niche?

I work Pets myself. But I don't just throw up ads for Dogs and Cats. You have to really dig deep to get past the big competition. You have to specialize.

What is your Unique Selling Proposition?

Are your supplies Organic? How are they better? Why should someone buy from you and not someone else? Can you ship it faster? Are your products endorsed in some special way?

What can you offer that is better, newer, etc.

I suggest you narrow your field of vision a bit, instead of focusing on a general group like "pet owners". You could instead focus on a more specific group like "corgi owners", and then create a product that you can give away for free for this group if they sign up for your list.

It might seem like a big undertaking, but building a list is one of the greatest ways to ensure a steady stream of income for years to come.
