Hosting for Multiple Websites

I know for a lot of you this may seem like such a silly question. But for those who have 10+ websites (I know some of you have 100s!), how do you handle hosting?

Right now I have one hosting account through BlueHost. I have about 4 websites on it right now, but 3 or them are add-ons of course. Do you all have a certain number of add-ons to several different accounts and if so how many do you see as the optimum number for each hosting account? If not, is there a better method as I try to build niche websites?

As long as your combined traffic is reasonable, your "unlimited" shared account may handle it OK. When your business grows to something 'significant' you might move to a dedicated server primarily for better security and up time reliability.

I use a few different hosts in order to have different IP addressees which is useful if you are linking between sites for seo benifit, although one more backlink source doesn't justify the cost of another account.

You can get a reseller account. Each website you add will be with a different "account", which will often be a different IP address. It's not that much more expensive.

Keep an eye on Host Gator this Black Friday? We ended up getting a super cheap deal (well, FREE because they forget to charge us! But it was advertised at like $7 a month).

If you're using unlimite bandwith and hosting you should not care anymore.
but the best question is "how you can handle for update content manually with 100+ blog/website..??" lol...

I just did this for my brother with little or no tech skills. go to seohosting and sign up for their packeges. a 5 C class will give you five different IP adress that you can use for five sites 10 for 10 ect. pick what you need. they will send you an email with a Cpanel password and info to change server names over to them. Its easy to do and if you get stuck just use the chat to talk to thier techs they will walk you through. We are using it for our blogs because Google can tell if it comes from the same computer and wont give you any cred. Doing this shows that it comes from different web Master and their for more legit.

    hope this helps

I have all of my domains (except one) on one hosting package, and one of my domains through another. Dependent on the hosting you buy, you should be able to monitor basic server activity for the package you get, further allowing you to upgrade certain privileges with your host when appropriate.

My single separate domain requires a separate hosting package because it demands a lot more server resources than all my other sites due to high volumes of traffic.

You can add unlimited domains on your hosting. If you ever go above the allocated bandwidth or space, then upgrade the plan or sign up with a new host to host the site.

There is usually no limit to the number of domains you can add

Thank you all for the great replies. I am liking my BlueHost hosting right now, and since several of you have pointed out that you use one server just fine I think I will stick with it for now. I just wanted to make sure this was fine before I start building new websites.

This is why I love the Warrior Forum though. You can get answers to questions like this from knowledgeable people. Thanks!

Hi jlt, BlueHost is good hosting. As long as you read their AUP (Acceptable Usage Policy) and know what you're doing, all should be fine.

Even if good hosting providers like BlueHost and HG provide unlimited everything, they do shut down sites/accounts if the AUP is violated. Can't blame them as their reason will also be valid - "it's for the good of all the users on the shared server".

If you are planning on moving up to having loads of domains (10+ is not unusual in IM) then I would look at getting a VPS or Virtual Private Server. You can get these quite cheaply (although not as cheap as shared hosting) and Bluehost probably provide them.

A VPS is basically the same thing as having your own server. The main difference being that its a lot easier to re-size the virtual hardware as your business needs change.

If you setup a VPS with Web Host Manager (WHM) and Cpanel. Its a really simple to run and you can keep all your sites nicely compartmentalized. I like this as I'm a bit of a neat freak when it comes to my server.

Like williamtan mentioned above you dont have to worry about your sites getting shut because of AUP violations which can avoid some headaches once you start driving the traffic that you need in IM to make a decent wage.

Anyway its all food for though and probably not something you need right now. However you probably should build it into your long term plan.

    Hope that helped some.

Thank you both for this information. I went ahead and reread the AUP policies and I don't foresee breaking any of these rules. The websites I am building are more educational/helpful with affiliate links inside so no maliciousness that could get me into trouble really.

I do hope that I am able to eventually get a VPS once I am making more of an income through my IM efforts.

I prefer reseller hosting accounts because each site can have it's own control panel.

Hmmm is it true that there are no SEO benefits if you interlink your own websites if they are on one hosting account? I don't take any measures to hide the fact that the blogs and websites are all mine, I link them so that people can look at my other work and because some of them are in related niches anyway.

Is there any reason not to link them to each other?
