How Important Is A Mentor?

I'm a young service-member trying to find a way to supplement my cash flow. Internet marketing is possibly the best way to do that since I occassionally have access to the net overseas.

I've tried to get good at stuff before and I usually go about it by myself. Because I'm a really hard worker, but you can't succeed on work ethic alone. I don't think I can get there all by myself, whenever I go at stuff alone I'll have major blind-spots.

Ill put to much work in here, or too little there and it all ends in fustration. So I need a guide, is there anyone who is successful at I.M. that is willing to help a young (open minded) service-member suceed at I.M.?

        You go Jill!

As for a mentor, I think it's semi important. More than anything you need to learn and take action. You could have the most amazing mentor in the world, but if you don't do anything with what that mentor is teaching you, you'll never get anywhere.

        Didn't get it sorry.

Now a few words ontopic. A mentor is always very important, and it doesn't really matter if you learning foreign language, mathematics, cookery, gardening or something else. That's because there always must be a live feedback. There must be someone who will control you educating progress to be sure you are getting it right.

I'm only making money as a sailor in the navy.

Right now I only have about 2 or 3 hours daily of free time. Considering I have to shower and take care of a lot of misc. bull I have less than that. So I've been creating this newsletter, and a squeeze page whenvever I have time.

My plan is to eventually have my own product, but right now I'm promoting clickbank prods to my list.

I have yet to launch because the newsletter isn't yet complete and I am going to be hiring a pro copywriter to write the pitch.

There are many advantages of having a mentor. If you are lost and don't know how to start then your mentor can help you. Your time on studying and researching on important things will be reduced and saved since you have a mentor to teach you on where to focus on.

Actually I didn't have a mentor since I started IM However, I do understand that having a mentor is much better but I believe in my skills. I can learn on my own ways.

  • Well, in my humble opinion, MENTOR is a successful person that can brings you into the light from dark and guide you every steps to success. Without mentor, personally I think it's like you riding a bicycle just step on the pedals without knowing where you are going.

My personal stories such as I didn't have a mentor and end up doing everything myself by going a very very long way until one day , a well-known mentor came to me and said he can offered me a chance by teaching me on some skills and knowledges that need to be master of. So from that day , mentor is your teacher to LEARN something that you don't know.

I guess each branded mentor in this world have their own blueprint of success, probably, if follow just ONE of the method, it might bring you something cool ~ I don't know, but I personally felt , LIVE CURIOUS and LEARN. There is a lot of stuff that we haven't know until today , let's not talk about rehashed stuff , but there is a lot of hidden tactic we didn't discover and implement. So, I guess MENTOR can give you a clue on what you suppose to learn.

Well, what do you think guys ? Hope to see more sharing right here. Because any newcomers and newbies need your help to succeed and pass to next generation of successors.

Make sure you're ready for mentoring! If you're a total newbie, chances are, you aren't. If you're even able to afford any type of mentoring as a newbie, you won't get as much out of it as you could otherwise if you know yourself better and what areas of IM you want to pursue.

It takes time to figure out what area of IM you want to pursue, who the players are in that area, and which one is right for you. Many people offer similar info, but not all people will resonate with your personally. You need to find someone you "click" with to get the most out of it.

You can use a person, a book, an information product, an internship or a job, -- or a forum -- as your mentor. People typically charge more for their personal time/attention than they will for an information product or a book. And one-on-one coaching typically costs A LOT more than group coaching.

One of my mentors HIGHLY recommends investing most of your money in mentoring and then building the actual business and marketing on a shoestring. This is EXCELLENT advice.

However, if you're broke, you probably can't afford any group coaching program, much less one-on-one coaching.

That's ok. First, you need to research and "find" yourself online. That is, become knowledgeable enough that you KNOW what you want to do online. Do your homework. Search this forum. Read books. Buy courses.

Then apply what you've learned. It's ok if it doesn't work the first time. We all have to start somewhere. And believe me, you'll get a LOT more out of the coaching/mentoring if you 1) KNOW exactly what area of IM you want to pursue and what you want to get out of the coaching and 2) if you already have some experience under your belt.

Plus, it's less costly to invest in some IM products (comprehensive courses, not $5 ebooks), than hiring a mentor right out of the gate.

I'm very much a DIY kind of person and much preferred buying courses and studying on my own than buying actual coaching. I invested a lot of time and money over about 7 years (or more) learning, dabbling in IM, making some money, and deciding exactly what I wanted to do online. In that time, I also made a very short list of people I'd discovered who I trusted: people I buy from, listen to, trust and can recommend. (Having such a list of people will save you a LOT of time and headaches!)

Since I'm a DIY kind of person, I always viewed high-level, expensive coaching/mentoring programs a bit skeptically. I believe that mentoring from the right person is very valuable. But why should I pay $3,000 (or more) to be mentored when I can buy a course for $1,000 (or less) and teach myself the same thing????

So now I'm very knowledgeable about IM, with some experience to boot. So I was ready to jump into my first-ever coaching/mentoring opportunity when it dropped into my lap last year after I lost my job.

If I hadn't already done so much research or if I wasn't CRYSTAL CLEAR about what I wanted and expected out of it, I would never have done it. But she was the perfect mentor and the timing was perfect. (Incredible, really.) I'd NEVER invested so much money at once ($3,000), but it was worth it's weight in gold. And I was ready for it.

I've been VERY happy with my mentor's guidance, THRILLED with what I learned and the world of possibilities she opened up, not to mention the emotional support she lent and her belief in all of her clients (me included).

I love her personality and have a huge respect for her personally, as well as professionally. She models my idea of what a woman in business should be: super business savvy, yet totally feminine. She is a lovely, lovely lady.

Once you know what area of IM you want to pursue, look to see who the players are in that field. Subscribe to their e-zines. Buy their courses and e-books. You'll quickly get a feel for those who are genuine.

Then find someone who's where you want to be, who has the RESULTS that you want to achieve, and hire them.

      WHEN you're ready for it.

      Hope that helps!

      Michelle

A mentor is definitely good to have, because one of the fastest ways to get to where you want to go is to find someone who is already there and learn how they got there. In life, you can either learn from your own experiences and mistakes, or failing that, you can learn from other people's experiences and mistakes, and a mentor is someone who has gone through it and is able to give you the perspective on what works and what doesn't because he is 2 or 3 steps ahead of you.

What is the purpose of a mentor for you? Off the top of my head, here are a few possibilities:

    a) Is it to provide you with pointers/guidance to the best/most reliable info?
    b) Is it to teach you a particular skill or set of skills?
    c) Is it to tell you what to do next?
    d) Is it to kick your butt when you are not doing something?
    e) Is it to be a sounding board when you hit a wall?
    f) Other?
    g) All of the above?

Some (all) of these things can be achieved in other ways. For example (and these are just some of the myriad of options):

    a) Is it to provide you with pointers to the best/most reliable info? [Try the warrior forum or site point or web geek]
    b) Is it to teach you a particular skill or set of skills? [identify the skills exactly, then go find the guru in that field and read/watch everything you can get your hands on. Take notes. Throw out the stuff that wont work for you. Apply the rest.]
    c) Is it to tell you what to do next? [Engage a highly experienced IM to develop a marketing plan for you in the wares of your choice]
    d) Is it to kick your butt when you are not doing something? [Join a meetup group - like those they set up on the challenge forums]
    e) Is it to be a sounding board when you hit a wall? [meetup group will help here or buddy - find someone in the same boat and be accountable to each other]

Some mentors will have skills in one or two of these areas but not necessarily all of them. if you are going for a mentor be really clear about what it is that you want/need - and then find someone who kicks butt in that area (and perhaps with some skills in other areas as well).

Here's something else to ponder. Every mentor that I've ever studied with also had a mentor. Success leaves a lot of clues. I look at people in my life that I have admired ranging from actors, comedians, sports coaches, athletes, teachers, professors, doctors, great speakers, consultants of all kinds, etc. and without exception they had several people mentor them throughout their careers.

As already mentioned, pick your mentors wisely. Don't be afraid to ask them questions and to ask for references.

Personally I don't think a mentor is necessary.

Practically all the information you need is already out there, in forums like these and in courses you can purchase.

You just need to be a go-getter.
Pick one area, read what you can. Implement . Test. Tweak. Post questions here or in appropriate forums. Use Google as your best friend.

Mentors are not needed when you are willing to put in the work and implement what you have learned.

    My 2 cents.

The information is already available and if you really want to spend less and succeed with your online endeavor, the best way to mentor yourself is through your determination and experience in finding out what's the real way to your online success, try to imitate those IMers who became successful online follow what they do.

Things such as setting up your sales funnle the correct way, the best way to start to build your list, building a squeeze page, and various other things that you need.

    Hi!

Why don't you first try The Challenge This is a FREE challenge many of us have taken. There is a ton of free advices on how to make your first website and profit.

It has been 2 years since I've participated and two websites still bring me a nice portion of monthly income.

Here is my advice: read, explore, search.

You will need experience and hard work. Don't fall for $5000 in 3 hours.

There's so much info out there that it gets really confusing. For those who are mentored by Google, if there's a method you use for separating the dross from the real stuff, be sure to let us know.

Besides the right mentor can help you keep going when you want to quit.
