If you had 5k - 6k visitors a month

What would you do to monetize site if you had 5k - 6k visitors a month.

I have recently purchased a website that was not properly monetized or setup. It has between 5k - 6k unique visitors monthly and ranks #1 for a couple of keywords in the mobile texting niche.

The demographic is probably teens and 20 year olds who like to text. What would you do to monetize the site.

The formatting of the site is very simple php code for 1 page site that needs improvement and product/monetization. I can't code.

Would you:

- Wordpress the site for ease of use for me? will this change ranking or SERP.

- add some articles and blog posts about the keyword subject

- add fun topics and start forums and visitor participation on texting subjects

- add some widgets to market affiliate products

- start email list for some sort of free ebook or other incentive

- try Adsense (even though i think google might frown on the content)

- create my own products (simple app/scripts) for them to purchase

- or outsource some coding and leave foundation of site the same and do some of the above

Thanks and any advice is welcome.

I have an amazon site that's getting 5k visitors a month.

Traffic has only spiked in the past 2 weeks... so imagine it will be more next month.

I'm serp 1 for some of my main buying keywords, and also have a couple of others on 4 - 5 spots on page 1.

I notice that some of my main competition is using adsense.

I pulled in around $250 with this site last month... that said, most of that was from the second half of the month.

Theres an info keyword, that has 27k exact searches, with a cpc of $1.80

I was serp 5 for this, but currently serp 13... the competition must have seen me coming.

My site is only 4 months old. I'm sure I can rank for the info keyword.

My conversion rate is pretty low for this product, even with my main keywords having in them, consumer reports, reviews, best etc

Should I start to think about adsense?

That said... I'm not sure if my adsense is banned or not.

OP, how much did you buy the site for, if you don't mind me asking.

Thanks for the comments! I was hoping for a little more specifics about behavior of my demographic maybe appealing to them? (teens - young 20's).

What have others had success on this age group buying? Affiliate products, clicking on adsense, or make my own stuff?

Will email list work on this age group?

I hate to say it but i shopped well and bought the site for a couple hundred dollars.

I was a little scared about getting banned from adsense for the site which are related to borderline texting comments and one of the affiliate products are naughty tshirts. Because I use some Adsense on other sites too.

I would try Adsense. The younger demographic (<18) has less opportunity in spending online, but they are GREAT info seekers and will often click adsense links to bring them to new and interesting content.

It's hard to say how anything else will work without knowing your keywords.

Keywords will determine your traffics quality, and the quality of your traffic will determine how you can monetize.

If you're getting that volume of traffic through direct buyer keywords (example: buy [product] now, cheapest [product name], [product name] online) then you will have a much higher conversion rate by posting affiliate offers on the product or service in question.

If you're getting that volume of traffic through stress keywords (example: stop itching quickly, fast hair removal, get ride of acne now) then you might be better off creating your own ebook and selling it. These people obviously have a problem that they want fixed right away, they are willing to pay for the information.

If you are getting traffic from more general info-seeker keywords (example: best rock climbing tips, information about canoeing, best books to read) then you are not going to convert anything at a high rate, these guys are more likely to continue info seeking through your adsense links.

See how the keywords play a massive part in how you should monetize?

Thanks for the well thought out response! I had not seen that short and nice of an overview on types of keywords and appropriate marketing... WSO? That does help a bunch since my keywords are based on a texting activity and will be more about information seeking first. Though there is the opportunity for creating a low cost product around it too.

Also, just going to put up some affiliate banners for teen things like acne, teen dating stuff, tshirt and music banners. Just to test.

But i think i will just get up some adsense asap to see if i can capture a little of the daily visitors.

Yes if you're hitting that amount of traffic it just makes sense to capture some Adsense revenue from them.

Just don't over-do the Adsense right away if the backlinks aren't very strong as you can push the pages down in the SERPs by placing too many Ads.

Yea, the keywords play a HUGE role in conversion rates and a lot of people tend to overlook it.

It is the only bit of user inputted text before they hit your site, you can determine a lot about the way they are feeling and their intentions by looking at the short phrases they are writing.

what do you mean by steady? same as above and needing strong positioning from backlinks, etc? will one google adsense ad hurt this? this site has been #1 for a couple keywords for several months

      thanks,

No, one adsense block per page shouldn't harm the SEO in any way. I'm talking more 3+ blocks.
