Don't be a one man (or woman) show...

I was reading this thread here: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...mith-myob.html (which is a great thread, BTW - everyone should read it)

And that got me thinking about something the most successful online business people - make connections.

Whether it be article syndication, ad swapping (as in this thread: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...o-123-day.html), getting affiliates to promote your stuff, partners to help build products...etc. a big chunk of success comes from making connections.

I know when I first started out, I didn't care about "connections". I just wanted easy money.

Connections meant "relationship building" - or at the very least, "work" by finding these connections and leveraging them.

However, it didn't take me long to realize how valuable they are.

They've allowed me to make all sorts of money, a lot easier, than the usual "spam the SE's in hope of making big money".

A single email from a partner - or a single syndicated article - could be worth more than months of SEO work. And cheaper than PPC.

While I'm not bashing those methods (as they are very valid ways to make money), unfortunately for a lot of people, that is the only way to make money online.

Don't be afraid to start making connections. Trust me, it's worth it!

It cliche as all hell, but it bears repeating here.

"It's not what you know, but who you know."

And then of course, once you find the who, your what means so much more.

Marketing is already about relationships, and why some of choose not to foster and grow relationships is beyond me. Networking is relationship building. That is the basis of B2B and it doesn't necessarily have to be a "you scratch my back, I scratch yours" situation.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

I know, I hear it all the time... don't try and do it all yourself.

But, I still want to do it all myself. I guess pride is one reason and wanting to make it on my own, without the help of others is another. I'm very picky about my business and I'd be even more picky about choosing business partners.

I also don't like to rely on others for my own success. I know, relying on Google or SEO is just as bad, but I feel like I want to master everything before I even start seeking out partners or big time affiliates.

I've done quite well so far and have started to open up a bit and as soon as I finish my next project, I'm going to put more of an effort into seeking out VA's, affiliates, partners and so forth.

I'm glad Christophe - it's hard to give up power. But connections can REALLY help turn things around.

Those connections are actually more powerful than traffic from Google - because Google can ban you. But if you have a solid list of connections, partners, affiliates, syndicates, what-have-you...then you don't ever have to worry about what some automated 3rd part does.

not to mention, when you do get a chance to work with some one,
you get to see what they do, and how they do it.

That in itself can be very valuable.

I was lucky to work with someone with a pretty big name,
and he pitched one of my products on a webinar. i had never saw a webinar,
did not know the power of them. and in less then 10 min, he sold more of my product, then i did in a month and for twice the price ....

It was a real eye opener for me.

I have since worked with others, and it seams everyone does it different.

To me , that alone is worth having relationships, everything you learn is simply money in the bank

I couldn't agree more and I've found that the more I've connected with other marketers, the more I've benefited from the snowball effect. I get to know people who know other people - it's like the six degrees rule kicking in. Put yourself out there and sooner or later you're going to hook up with the perfect person to get a particular project really rolling and I speak as a former teamplaying phobe.

Plunge in, people and share the love - the connections and wealth of knowledge come as part of the package deal!

    Great thread.

I believe the that what keeps us from getting more connections is as you said the sense of work. The idea that we need to do something for someone first before they will be willing to do something for us is just overwhelming.

Good point. Thins move much faster once you have some people working with and for you.
