Myth or Fact? Landing people on PayPal.com to make purchases loses you sales...

I've been considering 1shopping cart instead of PayPal...mainly due to fees and also I've been reading that having a checkout on your site increases conversions compared to sending a customer to PayPal.com

I know the answer is "test", but I'd rather get Warrior feedback first, before investing in a $130/mo service.

BTW - I don't think Warrior Forum or IM traffic counts as a true test as most Warriors and IMers are comfortable and accustomed to PayPal where as someone buying a diet guide is like, "PayPal? ...Scam!" ...

Thoughts?

I think it depends on the market.

If you are selling to Internet Savvy people or IM's they will not be turned off by PayPal. In fact, I love to see a PayPal payment gateway because I trust it.

On the other hand, less savvy people might be more impressed and secure if you have a "personalized" shopping cart with your logo and product. They might think that you rbusiness is more "credible" if you have the whole shebang.

I have used 1ShoppingCart.com...they actually integrate with Paypal so you can still have the money deposited directly into your PP account but the customer will never leave your shopping cart and site.

Is there any option that isn't $99/mo that would allow customers to make PayPal payments on my site?

I've been in payment processing for a few decades, and we are seeing just the opposite these days outside of the IM market. In fact, PayPal is now available as a payment option on the sites of most major airlines! That's a huge move as airlines are quite slow to adopt anything new due to the high fraud rates they have with online purchases.

One of the reasons PayPal is so well recognized now is because so many people use EBay and it's pretty much the 'standard' there.

As to using 1ShoppingCart as a way to reduce your fees? Unless they've changed since the last time I used them - don't you have to have your own merchant account? If that's still the case, you usually wind up paying a monthly service fee for the merchant acct, + the 1SC fee, and merchant acct rates are usually about the same as the rates with PayPal.

Not really sure that you would be saving anything as far as fees are concerned BUT it does give you the a lot of tools to manage your business in one handy location - you can generate your reports, track affiliates and manage your subscribers. In that respect - it's a great way to go!

Yeah for the online merchant account and 1shopping cart it's about $130 / mo ... and their fees are close to PayPal's, but I was doing some math on some of my PayPal transactions and saw as high as 4.5%

The cap on the merchant fees is a little under 3%...but there's a 'break even' point with volume of sales.

PayPal just seems easier . I think I'll stick with them, but I would like to test the buying experience on my site, if possible. Is there anyway to do this other than paying $99/mo for 1shoppingcart?

Check the authorize.net site - they list all of the different shopping carts they integrate with - that way you can look at the features you want etc

I am not a huge fan of 1SC - was with them for years (WAAAAAY back) but just too many problems, too many outages, and too little support. That was 3 yrs ago - hopefully they have improved.

I can't really recommend anything that would fit your needs - unfortunately most of my processing clients are at the 'enterprise' level and do everything in house

The fact that Ebay uses "solely" Paypal as a service for processing payments I would think that most buyers have trust for Paypal.

If not, maybe you could do...

      1. Mention that Paypal is who Ebay trusts to people who might not know
      2. Create a Snapshot or video showing the process and pages they will be brought to next (a guided video tour of every step they will be brought through might help alot of people buy and this alone I think will increase conversions.
      3. Include a link that says "View our Trusted/Secure Payment Options" (or something like that) and that page can be for the people who like to read the fine print and add a Paypal button on this page so they can purchase without having to go back and rethink the purchase...

Don't know if this helps you out but I just thought I would throw some ideas out there at you...

      Hope this helps...

Plus, some of you may not be aware that PP recently "split." There's now a US operation and a Mexican operation. If your IP is Mexico and you had a US account, you're blocked until you introduce a Mexican bank account and all transactions MUST be in Pesos! Sorta sucks in the "value keeping" area.

but back to the original question. There was a report offered recently on WSO about using a secure server to post your company Logo at the top of the PayPal landing pages, thereby giving your own business some credibility. Look into it. I use it and it works.

1shoppingcart is pretty fee laden. I downgraded to just the autorespoder account for $29/month. Before that I did have to pay $99/month,,,but that include my autoresponders and email blasts...stuff like that.

It will be different from niche to niche so there is no dead certain answer. Most of us are regular Internet users and have a PayPal account with funds in so I imagine us Warriors would prefer PayPal. The average may want to use a card and pay with worldwide brands such as VISA.

Only way to find out is to split test or offer both.

Have you looked at PayPal's Website Payments Pro? https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/we...erview-outside

I haven't set it up yet but it's my understanding that when customers choose to pay by credit card it keeps them on the site instead of transferring them to PayPal.
