Virtual Sales Agents and Live Sales Agents

This post really refers to two different ideas. But maybe not as you might initially expect.

Most of us are familiar with the virtual agent software packages that exist. Many are poorly instructed and can handle only 2 or 3 keywords, largely due to laziness of the person setting them up or limitations of poor programming.

At the other end of the spectrum is the actual live person sales agent. Someone who can answer questions, find out information, and genuinely communicate with the customer.

Does anyone know of an implementation method that would allow a "virtual sales agent" to be offered (or to offer its help) when no live agent is available, and allow a method for leaving a message for contact by a live person when one becomes available. But if a live person is signed in right now, that the virtual sales agent wouldn't get involved, but instead the live person would be the one they would reach?

While I understand that not every question can be fed into a virtual sales agent program, having access to a live person who can actually log the questions and concerns of a visitor/prospect as well as answer and research questions, would provide a large resource for determining what information the virtual agent might actually need to have added to it for when a live person is not online.

    Hey Scott,

You're referring to 'virtual agents', having virtual chat agent as a synonym. There are many synonyms around these days, including 'virtual sales agent', which makes researching the topic a bit difficult. Therefore, we have created a synonym list a while ago and adding new synonyms all the time

(begin new on this forum, I'm not allowed to post links, therefore go to Chatbots.org and add the text below (a moderator might help me out, as I believe these links make sense):

    /synonyms

    To mention a few examples:
/virtual_agent: Virtual agent is one of the most common names in the US

/virtual_assistant. Virtual assistant is getting increasingly popular in mainland Europe (as they are not familiar with its other meaning).

/chatbot - Chatbot is popular as well, or people out of the business refer to them as 'avatar'

    /avatar

To answer your question: most professional 'dialogue systems' (to mention another one) are capable of dynamically shifting between live agents and their virtual colleagues.

You can find professional vendors in this directory:
    /companies

Hopefully this helps. Sorry for the weird 'links', 14 posts to go before I can add 'real' links.

  • Scott,
The company I work for offers Virtual agents that do not require a liveperson to respond to user's inquries. If you purchase the SaaS you will have access to the backend and can customize responses, see what users are asking, and you also have the option to use a form that can be emailed to you if the agent does not have an answer. We offer professional services but some clients like to create and manage their knowledge base on their own, please check us out at nohold.com; the product is called Instant Support ~ best of luck!
