How do I track where subscribers are coming from?

Warriors, I'm stuck on this one and I need your help.

I have various articles all over the web with links in them that send traffic to a squeeze page.

I'd like to track for the people who opt-in on that squeeze page, where exactly they came from, so I know what articles generate the most subscribers.

My stats in Google analytics show me what articles generate the most visitors, but I have no idea how many of the visitors from each source actually opt-in (subscribe).

Now that I think about it, I need to setup some similar tracking for buyers as well, not just subscribers.

Any ideas how I can do that?

    Personally, I find Piwik less complicated, but you basically just need to set goals. Then you can run reports on the traffic that completed the goals such as getting the referrer.

      I can do this in Google Analytics? Track the initial referer? Or just with Piwik?

    You just need to set goals in Google Analytics and then put the Google Analytics conversion code on your thank you page for signups.

      Ok, so I started implementing goals in Google Analytics over the weekend. The good news is that I can see in my GA account data a nice opt-in funnel with a good conversion rate.

      The bad news is that I still don't know where the people who convert and go through the funnel are coming from. All GA show is 'Entrance'. Can I get more specific details from Google Analytics on that?
