Any demand for non-im e-books

I intend to write an e-book sharing my experiences in living with my autistic child. It will be an inspirational book and I will share lessons leraned in living with my autistic childSince this in in the non internet marketing category , I am not sure that it will sell. What are your veiws on this.

If I do go ahead and write the ebook how do I promote it and how do I get more sales.

Depends on the niche, and the ability of your advertising and sales copy to create an interest in your product.

There are many, many non-IM ebooks. Check Clickbank...or Amazon Kindle. Autism is getting more common, and I believe it's a relatively popular niche. Many parents would like insights on how to raise their autistic children. So it could be promoted by writing articles or making videos where you give a few tips and promise them more in your book.

Non- IM ebooks can sometimes be easier to sell than IM books, and the refund rate is definitely lower. Definitely go ahead with your ebook! It sounds like you have very valuable advice to give.

    IMHO, take your time.

First, create a killer product. While you are doing so, become an active and valued participant on parenting/autism blogs and boards. Infact, there are many popular blogs (such as "mommy blogs) which are not about autism per se but the writer has an autistic child. Reach out and connect with people. This is very, very important.

    Next, do a test launch.

Run a small PPC campaign (MSN adcentre) and see the conversion rates. Try to tweak and improve.

Try not to send "cold" traffic straight to your sales page. Instead, have them opt in and build your list, have the ebook as an OTO.

Try to buy solo ads from people in the parenting niche. Test your traffic till your conversion rates are good. At the same time you're building your list.

Now approach those people whom you have made connections with and offer them review copies. Infact, you can do this before testing to get their input. Use their input to improve your product. Now, with your testing results and the final version, approach your friends in the parenting niche and offer them 100% commissions to promote your product. Have a backend product and/or affiliate products that will make you money.

Sound like a lot of work? It is. But it's also how successful email marketing is done. You may have the best product in the world, but without traffic, you won't make sales. So you need to spend a lot of time on marketing.

If this sounds too tough for you, break up the ebook idea into smaller articles. Start a blog. Sell the ebook from your blog while you build a list (opt-in box popup and/or in the sidebar). You'll also make adsense+affiliate income from the blog.

    Hope that helps

There is a lot of books that sells for its inspiring stories and motivational bits. In Amazon, ans also the more humble MPH, Popular as well :-D

Yours too, does not need to fit here in the WF realm as it has a bigger market out there. I think you should focus on writing the book on that can be used as a reference for other parents who has autism child as well, as well as people who want to learn more about autism.

I think- where you stand- you book will do much better it you tone down the money aspect and focus more on delivering knowledge that you have bringing up autistic kids. With right strategy, this will make you money- and you get to impart your wisdom on the subject as well

IM ebooks probably represent only a sliver of all the ebooks sold today. If you produce a good ebook, and there's an audience for the topic, then there's a way to make sales.

There are lots of non-IM e-books. Your topic is in the parenting niche. I'm assuming it's big since it's all over t.v. and so many celebs are advactes on behalf of their children for more research so they can find a cure. You need to do research before you start doing anything, though. Not a strange question at all. Just want to make sure there is demand before I start writing.

You can test the market by creating a report instead of an ebook. A report is much shorter than an ebook and you can try selling it on clickbank and on autisum related forums. If the report sells, you know there will be demand for your ebook. Also, the feedback you get from those who purchase your report will be of great value in helping you build content for your ebook.

IM is so extremely competitive that experienced IMrs, if they're being honest, will recommend that you don't start out in that niche.

You sound like you will write from the heart about your experiences. And by doing this, people are more likely to purchase. Speaking from someone who has 2 children with different health problems, one chronic and the other will just take some time to get past, I know that I look for books to buy to help me understand.

And with so many parents who have Autistic children you will be helping a great many people.

    I wish you luck...Val

Valerie was spot-on when she talked about buying such a book to help her understand.

I've read books about Down Syndrome and I don't have a Down Syndrome child. (I don't have any children other than the four-footed variety.)

The OP was talking about making his story inspirational. There's always a market for that. Heck, there's at least one of those in every Reader's Digest, the most popular publication in the world.

Actually I think this is a golden niche. It is one of those things where the reader is desperately in search of answers. This is one of the first things we learn in IM; pick a niche with desperate buyers. Parents with autistic children are seeking out answers and solutions. Who better to learn from than someone who is dealing with the same thing? And judging from the amount of coverage I've seen out there (tv, magazines, etc) apparently it is something many parents are dealing with. I think, to be able to download an ebook chock full of helpful solutions and suggestions would be a sought-after Godsend to these parents.

The market seems too narrow in my opinion, try to think bigger. There has to be some topic you can write about that will have a larger market with "hungrier" buyers in it. Just my 2 cents

Absolutely - we have ebooks in 4 different non-IM niches and they all sell very well.

What you have to watch though are general "about" or "informational" works - they tend to sell very mediocre - instead you need to hit a desperate search for specific result - that's what really sells ebooks.

So, certainly you can embed your personal experiences and inspiration into your ebook about living with autistic kids, but try and really focus on the #1 or #2 question you would have PAID to have had answered as you went through the phases of discovery, getting educated, learning to cope or other phases of your child's development and/or your family evolution.

Think of the really big questions - really big anxieties - really big desired improvements you sought.

Sometimes we need to stand back and take a look at ongoing discussions and others with the same experiences to see it more clearly (this is especially true when we write about topics we have lots of experience in ourselves, we tend to forget what the really big desires for information were in the earlier stages)

My only point being that e-books sell based on emotional desire to gain IMMEDIATE information that one believes will help them become instantly more able to achieve their end result.

Hope that helps in your refinement of your idea.

This book is like anything else...it might or might not sell. That being said I am sure that there are many people who would be willing to buy it. You would need to target key words and use as many low comp kep words as you can.

You might ask someone here in WF if they want to JV if target marketing is not you strong point. You could also use clickbank or find some one who sells ebooks to sell yours - like we sell ebooks .com or whatever.

I think it is always better to sell your own product but some people have mixed results and as I said if it is not your 'bag' - just write the book and have others promote it...there are tons of ways to promote an ebook.

      This is spot on.

While I have no children (autistic or otherwise), my wife and I did spend several years caring for my late mother-in-law as Parkinson's Disease stole first her health and then her mind. We went through most of that time without knowing there were resources we could turn to.

We would have paid good money for a book, electronic or otherwise, that would have told us how someone else dealt with the situation and the resources they found to help with the day to day struggle.

Kindle, Amazon proper via CreateSpace, Nook and other mass market outlets may be a better option than ClickBank.

      Good luck with your project...

The next time anyone asks themselves this question, I want you to go to a book store and look around. 98% of those books won't have anything to do with the Internet, period. They're all getting bought up.

Like John and Jeff have said though, you need to target the desperation in the niche.

"You are drained, tired, and you just don't know how to deal with your childs Autism anymore. They're difficult, and you've tried everything. Trust me, I know, I went through the same thing when I was raising my child. Let me tell you about some of the problems I faced:

    Problem 1
    Problem 2
    Problem 3

But you know what, I learned how to deal with them. I figured out how to get through to my child, and man, life is so awesome now that I know how to handle them."

You must make sure you are offering solutions to these people who just don't know. You show you've been there, you connect with your readers before they even get the product, and they'll connect more with you if you do the same thing in your book.

    To "charlieboy61",
If you do try to write a book, I strongly recommend you hire a professional editor and proof-reader. Seven mistakes of spelling and punctuation, in only three sentences, does not inspire confidence. This is the single biggest problem with self-published books and it's why most do not sell.

    Charles,

If this topic is burning inside of you, go ahead and write it.

When you write it, divide the chapters by lessons learned, and promote it more-or-less that way. Your audience will be able to understand and place your lessons-learned into a better context that will apply to them.

Autism is no longer a tinie-tiny market. More adults now have to learn how to deal with their autistic children. It's an extremely timely entry for this market.

However, write it towards the audience (i.e., what can they take from your parables and apply it to their own lives). Connect with them, and allow them to learn from you.

The actual distribution channels and marketing depends upon how much you are willing to pay for an ISBN. Seek out the free distro channels if you don't have enough money at first and then reinvest your profits into buying an ISBN if your sales are decent.

I've personally have better luck with ebooks that are non-IM related and sold through Amazon Kindle or Smashwords. If you have a story to share then go for it! The absolute worse that will happen is you will only get a few sales. Even if that does happen, there are plenty of Warriors who can give you advice on formatting and marketing your book even if it isn't IM related.
