Has Anti virus software changed the game for affilaite marketing?

So i had the lastest norton anti virus software.
My family purchased it and installed in my laptop.

There are many features, and 1 of them i happen to see was this " tracking cookie scan " and by default it is at remove. It removes tracking cookies every other second.

Because each time i leave my com idle for a few seconds it will show me that a scan is going on. And my com lags abit each time it does a scan.

So now the question is, will this affect internet marketing?
When a lead is on ur landing page viewing ur offer and his anti virus does a scan and remove all tracking cookie then will it affect your commissions?

For sure when it comes to 2nd visit then its gone. Like networks that says cookie will be there for 1 month or 2 months or 1 year, but with such systems in place, it doesnt matter if the cookie stays there for 30 years, if the user cleans his cookie every now and then whether manually or automatically then there goes ur commissions.

What you guys think?

Yes, if they visit your page and they get a cookie placed on their computer, and then the anti-virus removes that cookie and THEN they go back to purchase, you would not get any commission for that sale unless they used your affiliate link the 2nd time too.

So what do I do as a countermeasure?

    Domain redirect with masking

yes that is good. that is what i tot too.

but i was thinking more of like amazon stuff, lets say u promoted amazon product on ur mini niche site, then he decides to buy in on another day, and his A-V software cleans everything and he goes back to amazon direct to buy. Then all ur efforts are down the drain.

the tot itself is bad. lol.

From what I've noticed on my own machine, the cookies affected are the 'remarketing' cookies (mostly by the big ad networks like Doubleclick). These are the ones that track you around the web, so that if you visit a cooking site to print a recipe for your wife, then go to a MMA site, you see cooking ads.

I haven't noticed basic affiliate cookies that con only be read by the originating site getting automatically removed. Usually, you have to deliberately set the program to delete those.

yup, i understand what u are saying.

          this will affect remarketing alot.

but now the normal ones are also at risk if the user/visitor dont convert on the spot.

Anyways, i usually as a normal practice, i clear my history, cookies and all at the end of each day. =)

now my anti-virus does it for me every other sec. lol.

I also have NIS and I completely forgot about this the last time I posted in here:

Usually it removes around 4 or 5 tracking cookies at a time (for me anyway) and I know damn well I visit WAY more pages than that each day. So now that I thought about that, it may OR may not affect your commissions.. Hard to say for sure.

yup, this is a perfect example of an imperfect world. hahaha

dont u just hate it when there is one more reason/factor that might just contribute to the loss of ur commissions which in turn means loss of income.

I fell victim to this last night.

Got a sale, but didnt get credit for the purchase. Now I have to run around and get in touch with the vendor, sort out all the purchase info and get my commissions.

lol it happens to the best of us man.

      i feel u man!

now the vendor can choose to play dirty.

i heard of cases where they undercut their affiliates.

Na, this has happened once before.

Vendor sent my commissions to my PayPal and took care of the problem for me. Also said if I ever have any problems in the future to contact him directly, instead of the help desk

I just have to wait for him to wake up/come home/whatever, lol hes on the other side of the world.

I knew there was a reason my Clickbank earnings were down these last few months.

Thanks for the heads up on this, I had no clue.

How's that go again? "One step forward, two steps back."
