Hi all,

We have been away from this forum for several months busy finding suppliers and building our websites. We return here to find the forum has a different URL now, and our previous posts are not in this new version.

We finally got our Jewelry (aka Jewellery) and Fashion Accessories website (ceebling.com) online in late November, but we only got 114 visitors in all of December, and made only 1 sale, despite a fair amount of online promotion. Very discouraging!

We would appreciate some feedback on our site, and yes it is still under development ... we haven't added any fashion accessories yet, for example, and we haven't done much work on SEO issues yet.

Next question ... how the heck do we get traffic (visitors) to our site without spamming various forums and blogs constantly?

I will say 2 quick things...

    1. When I visit the front page of your website, It takes a while to figure out it is a jewelry store. I think the header could use some work. That would be great place to let people know this is a jewelry website, though images, etc.

    2. Do you really like the color scheme? I am not feeling the lack of contrast. Moreover, that's not really a jewelry store color. When you think jewelry store, you think elegant and smooth. That color scheme is kind of "blah"

Take a look at the Zales website, the Kay website and the myjewelrybox.com website. Then look back at yours. Can you feel the difference?

Don't get discouraged though. Your site is a great start, and the only way to go is up!

  • Just a thought: have you thought about selling on eBay? If you own the products from the website, eBay might be an easier way to start earning money, rather than relying on website traffic.

    Hello,

Just some thoughts. I'm not into ecommerce so take them or leave them. Sorry to be a little blunt...

    Design:

Your site needs to be a thousand times better to compete in such an extremely competitive market and against the highstreet giants. To me the site doesn't create the impression of quality, luxury and decadence. It's bland. Don't think that green is the right colour for a jewellery site!? You need something rich, more intense, deep and eye catching. You need photos of women wearing your jewellery to show off how stunning it can look. You need much larger, professional, high resolution photos showing how the diamonds sparkle in the light. You need to include your very best products on the first page which should mesmerise your visitors as soon as they arrive.

Selling jewellery is about nothing more than the presentation. That's all it's about. How do I know? I just checked out the competition.

    SEO:

Jewellery is unbelievably competitive! Why? Because you are competing against some massive, massive companies. And, at the lower end of the market there are several shops on every highstreet (many if which have a web presence) and there are thousands upon thousands of people who make it as a hobby and have similar online shops. Try and find some niche keywords to focus on and generate as many backlinks as you can. There are however much easier ways to make money!

    Best of luck,

    Andy

Such as? Tell us about these "easier ways to make money" ... privately if not publicly ...

Nice site, I would suggest displaying the silver against a back ground that shows it off more and when the thumbnail opens up the pictures could be a little larger. its one thing to tell people what you have is beautiful but a picture is worth a 1000 words as they say. ) good luck

    Thanks for the feedback.

It is not just selling jewellery ... there will be other stuff on there too, all to do with "bling" (stuff that is flashy, showy and attention-drawing). We just added some designer handbags (Gucci, Prada, Burberry, FENDI, etc.) and we will be adding other stuff like authentic First Nations beaded jewelry, fused-glass jewelry, and even artistic creations, as soon as we can iron out deals with our suppliers.

We have changed the layout scheme and colour scheme. We like the soft pastel green of the new layout. In our opinion, the Zales, Kay and Myjewelrybox sites are not fantastically better.

We will be selling on eBay, although the items we sell are not created by us. We have suppliers who dropship for us.

There are HUGE photos of each product available if you click through to the actual item page and THEN click on the image to enlarge it. You probably did not do that.

We do plan to create a more elegant site eventually, with Flash. What we have now was created using the StoresOnline e-commerce platform, which allowed us to get it online quickly.

    Again, thanks for the feedback.

LOL, I just found this old thread, after being away for a few months.

It is amusing that nobody specified any "easier ways to make money".
