Why does every product or tutorial have to be a video these days?

Am I the only one who prefers to read? You can't scim a video and you can't jump forward (or back) as easily looking for that piece of information.

Don't get me wrong - videos are great for some things - but I think the basic info should always be available on text. It has gotten to a point where I simply won't click if I see that Yotube marker.

I prefer to read and accessing the Internet via a tethered Droid, I don't watch videos at all, so I don't buy products that are promoted by video and don't buy products that are video products.

I also can't get it. What's be next - comics? As a member or the old school personally I do understand the textual tutorials only.

From my understanding, videos produce better results because it uses multiple senses to sell a product or a service. You can display written information, use audio, and communicate visually with the audience.

The reason I use video is I want people to see how sincere and really want to help people especially in this economy. Using video, people get to see my ugly mug, my ridiculous constant use of my left eyebrow, and also my bad handwriting. Maybe they will conclude that if this guy can make it, so can I!

I like when there is BOTH a video and PDF of what was talked about in the video, but then expanded. Shane Melaugh has some great videos where he does that.

I don't mind video MARKETING, but I think video only products or tutorials are annoying and that most people don't spend enough time (if any) 'proofreading' their video. A lot of 'umm' and 'eehhh' and jumping in context.

I am now a video junkie myself and at 53 yrs old, I think I'm old enough to be able to claim the "old school" mantra - but - I just love video!

I finally figured out how to make some lightly animated PowerPoint slides, create an audio file and then put it all together into a nice little video and edit it in Win Movie Maker. Oh, and I learned how to do this by watching videos on YouTube and Andy Jenkins free videos from a couple of months ago. And I'm just having a ball with it! (Who says you can't teach an "old dog" new tricks, right? )

When I'm on my "breaks," (i.e., lunch at my dining room table) I sit with a paperback book and read to my heart's content. And I love printing out and solving crossword puzzles with a pencil. I still pick up print magazines at doctor's offices or I bring my paperback with me so I can read while I wait.

But when I'm in my office and on the computer looking for instructions for how to do something, I head directly to YouTube. I can ffwd the video and take my own notes to refer to later in print format.

But I really believe that if you either know how to do it or can outsource the project, video is a great asset to a marketer's arsenal of content. And building a following and getting high PR backlinks from YouTube is a nice perk too.

    It depends on the product.

In some cases it does make sense. For example if the product walks you through how to install a certain software.

But very often: You are right. Something went awfully wrong. Some smart ass gives you an audio presentation with an almost still picture of a web site in the back ground. From time to time moving the mouse randomly while the picture or web site is not even that relevant...

I sold a product once and just had videos. A bunch of people complained that wanted a PDF guide. Then I did the opposite and the same result.

But what I learned was that the PDF requesters were more informed, wanted a straight to the point how-to, and the video watchers were more newbish and wanted every step explained in full detail.

So do both if you can! Make the PDF a "quick guide" and the videos more in-depth.

yes, this is also my opinion, i like video, it can show product in an intuitionistic and vivid way.
