How to Research domain names?

Hey everybody, I am looking for a nice catchy domain for my new site, but it turns out every domain I come up with is already taken.

So I was thinking there must be some tool which suggests variations or a list of kind of relevant domains available (any other method is also welcome.)

P.s. I have already tried godaddy tool, it didn't help me much.

Google "Domain name generator" and you'll get some cool sites which can give you a lot of ideas from seed keywords.

Nameboy and Domainnamesoup are two good sites that I just check out.

Find a "Power Words" list and start combining power words and niche word, PowerwordNichePowerword.com PowerwordPowerwordNiche.com
      Say your power words were:
      Code:
      list
      profit
      machine
      affiliate
      super
      spy
      mastermind
      course
      explosion
      millionaire
      ninja
      max
      rush
And your niche was scrapbooking, it would look like this:
      SuperScrapbookingCourse.com
      SpyScrapbookingMastermind.com
      ScrapbookingCourseExplosion.com
      Etc.

I like to go for Brandable instead of Keyword domains, Something memorable with a quality custom header/logo image.

      Hope this helps,

      also you may try

      1)
NameBoy.com - generates lots of KW combinations, however, their domain availability may not be accurate

      2)
Name.com's suggestion tool (as an option, it could suggest names based on data from Google KW Tool)
      https://manage.name.com/domain-suggestions/#

QRID.com - login to websites by scanning QR code on your monitor! No Passwords!

Try your main keyphrase first. In any form.
Look for .com first,(of course), and try using dashes.
Then look for the .net or .org.
Your domain registrar should give you some good alternatives.
    For example:
instead of internetmarketing.com you might get myinternetmarketing.com

    Hope this helps.

try the "Advanced Search" functions on this website:
    www(dot)domaintools(dot)com/buy/domain-search/

This will allow you search for domain names (.com .net .org .info .biz .us) by string (keywords) and has options like with/without hyphens. It will show domains that are currently registered, and those was were previously registered but expired and now available.

I use this site almost daily.

Most of the methods mentioned are for creating those clunky multi-word keyword based domains.

Obviously those are NOT the kinds of domains used by real profitable successful dot coms. They aren't even the kinds of names used by successful offline companies.

Look at Alexa's top 100 list of domains. You see things like:

    google.com
    facebook.com
    yahoo.com
    twitter.com
    amazon.com
    ebay.com

Are they keyword based? No. Are they even long enough to be keyword based? No.

You want short, easy to pronounce and easy for people to pass along to each other offline to maximize the viral possibilities.

So you just go to a whois and start typing things you can can pronounce. Maybe you do start with a keyword and then start mutating it. Let's say you have a site selling a new email marketing service. Don't try for emailmarketingservice.com. That's not 2.0. That's not the way successful dot coms are built.

Instead start with email or marketing. Do a whois for:

    emailio.com nope.
    mailio.com nope
    mailmark.com nope
    mailus.com yep

You just play with it until you find an opening.
