Marketing in Second Life

Hi! I came up with an great idea!

Second Life is a virtual world where you create your own environment. I have never played this "game" by myself. But I know that you can create stores where you can sell stuff for real money.

So wouldn't it be cool to create an store called "Virtual Money Makers" etc. where you are selling guides on how to make money in Second Life or something like that?

I think Second Life have many opportunities for Internet Marketers to get an audience!

I also saw a program on National Geographic about a guy who created virtual beds and toys on Second Life and sold them to other players. He had maked millions of dollars on this. He had a big house with a home office and a pool and everything!

Maby this is an idea? Marketing trough Second Life?

I've heard about that and have talked to people who have done that but it takes a long long time to build up any type of solid traffic/customers through that method. Marketing through a game isn't for me.

Of course, you can do it. A lot of people have been doing exactly that for the past years now.

I have played Second Life more than a couple of years ago and have seen the potential. But I also saw that it would take much of my time marketing inside the SL virtual world, as you need to tend to your business in there.

There may be scripts to do that now. I don't know, I haven't been to the SL world for a long time.

But you can certainly give it a try.

I used to play second life long time ago. Probably one of the main reason I like the game is the idea you can make money.

I guess it is a good idea based on your budget since you can buy land create a mall and start selling

Somewhat your post above sounds funny. Virtual beds and toys, lol.

If you think your idea can give you profit, try it. You don't know for sure what might happen to you.

It's been nearly 4 years since I was active on SL, but I would guess that the trade "currency" is still Lindens. Selling virtual objects can be fun, but it takes a boatload of Lindens be able to convert them into a real currency in any meaningful numbers.

Yes, It can be done for sure, but I can't imagine trying to build a business on a third party platform such as SL that could pull the plug at any time if the owners get tired of it.

I can assure you that everyone that makes significant money on there has put in a lot of effort. There are a few niches that do well there, but you will be up against some serious "players" to get a piece of it.

This is one of the players I referred to that dominates THE most lucrative niche on SL. Good luck competing with him.

I remember seeing an article about how a person became a millionaire from flipping virtual real estate in SL (Second Life's First Millionaire - BusinessWeek). You can make money from it, but it can be hard, partly because of constant inflation, partly because server lag can seriously hinder your ability to run a business, and partly because competition is fierce.

With that said though, anything is possible in SL. With a little creativity, you could make a good living from it.

Honestly, I'm not familiar with Second Life and never tried playing it. Hmmm but it does sound interesting.
