Does Tribal Syndication Work?

I am sure most if not all of you have seen or heard of new websites or groups that are starting up that offer "syndication" of your websites via tribal syndication.

The concept is that you will go to other members sites and leave comments and share their links socially via Digg, StumbleUpon, Facebook, Twitter etc etc.

My question for the forum is, Do you think tribal syndication works?

Regards,
Clint Butler

Sounds very interesting. I would think that this would work as it seems to be basically what you get with sites like Synnd, which worked well for me.

I am still testing it out myself. I was thinking of what kind of implications it may have with the search engines.

I would think that anything you can do to (ethically) get your content in front of targeted viewers. You don't need a service to do this, either. Find some bloggers in your niche and start building relationships with them. Leave thoughtful and helpful comments, interact with them on social networking sites, link to their stuff on your site, etc.

If you do this effectively they and their readers should take notice of you. They will be inclined to check out your content, and if they like it they might link to it on their own. You can also approach them about making guest posts and such.

I am inclined to agree with you Dan, I started a group just like you described and I am using a Facebook Page to do it. Here is a question that is coming up from some though.

If Google see's that the same group of people are commenting on each others sites would the "script" consider that reciprocal linking? I know that is a pretty paranoid question but I have had is poised to me.

I'm not an expert on SEO or reciprocal linking, however I don't think it would be a huge problem for three reasons.

        1. You are building relationships with bloggers in your niche and their existing audience, and so targeting referral traffic rather than SEO traffic. Any SEO benefits would be an added bonus.
        2. From everything I've heard about reciprocal links my understanding is that these links are only devalued (if even that). I can't imagine that Google would ever sandbox a site or assign a penalty for networking with other webmasters in your niche. In fact, I wonder if reciprocal linking isn't another one of those SEO myths, like "duplicate content".
        3. The links are from relevant sites, which Google actually favors.

I think you might be on to something Dan, I guess its something that only testing is going to show.

Are there any other Warrior's out there with an opinion on the matter?
