Action Packed story for auto responder series? ++Volunteers needed++

4 replies
Need ya'lls thoughts on this. Marketing 101 tells me to build my list with some inducement and send an auto responder series. I've been banging my head trying to come-up with content for the series beyond traditional copywriting and product descriptions. Finally I came-up the the idea to tell an action packed story that appeals to my target market of tactical gear buyers. I intend to send one episode a week with a cliff-hanger ending, currently planning 12 episodes.

I don't want to reveal the actual story line but within the story we will present gun handling tips, gear tips, self defense tips etc along with embedding the use of my equipment. In the end "Joe" will have saved the day and the only ones left hurting are the bad guys. The end of course will also be a cliff hanger in case we want to run another series.

The intent is to build my list by entertaining, teaching some skills, making them think about their own equipment needs, implanting thoughts about my offerings and of course including links and coupon offers, affiliate links (based on the content of that episode)

Does anyone have experience with an approach like this? What are the pros/cons to this idea?

Am I rockin' or off my rocker?

Update 2/14 +++ Volunteers needed+++
I've pursued the idea and had two writers submit storylines for the autoresponder series. I would like to get some input from other marketers with an interest in guns, prepping, survival etc. on which writer/story to pursue.

This isn't about editing the story or providing feedback on the plot, but simply helping me determine which writer tells a more engaging story that you think would get better open rates and perhaps get you to click on the links to various affiliate offers in the footer of the story.

PM me your email and I'll send you the first 3 installments of both stories and you can provide feedback to me from a marketing and consumer point of view. I do ask however that you don't post or reuse in anyway these installments.

After I get 6-8 people involved I'll edit this post to close it out.

Thanks

    I actually think you have something there. You know your marketing and your keeping them interested. Give a try, if after six your reader aren't opening your emails you know your not on right track. If they are you know you hit a home run.

    Most people would prefer to read a story instead of a strictly informative manual. I think that this should go over well. Hell, I'm not even on your list but I'm already interested in seeing how the story goes. If you add in the right amount of humor, then it should go over well. Let me know when you start it up and I'd be happy to join your list and give you feedback. Good luck!

    Thanks for the replies so far.

    Clint - your point about open rates is very good. My ghost writer and I can monitor those and tweak the story as needed to keep the reader interested.

    LL - I made a note about the humor. Even the tough guys crack a smile now and then

    One plus to this approach is that I can adjust my offerings based on seasonality etc without having to re-write the whole thing.
