Niche Site Owners: Is This A STUPID WP Plugin Idea Or What?

We all know that getting our content syndicated to other sites in our niche is good for rankings.

What if you could put a little headline near the top of articles on your site that said:

Want to use this article on your site? Click here to copy it to your clipboard!

Once they click, a new window appears with a "form" field where they can one-click select the text of the article and copy it to their clipboard.

The copied text would automatically include your backlink with anchor text (either in HTML or Visual format) and maybe some sort of tracking code that would allow you to see how many people used this plugin to syndicate your content.

I'd really love some input and ideas. Questions I have include:

Would you use this on your site?

Do you think this would encourage/increase syndication of your content to any substantial degree?

Is there any easier way to implement this, e.g. a script, etc?

Would it be possible to accurately gather analytics?

Any ideas on how to improve this concept?

By all means, please be candid! :p

If the ideas still seems sexy after I get a good bit of feedback, I'll get this thing developed!

Thanks!
Vic

    Hi Vic,

    Great idea! some answers

Would you use this on your site?

I would, instead of the headline - "Want to use this article on your site? Click here to copy it to your clipboard!" I would want to use an icon with an alt text as I dont really want my sites to be cluttered with unwanted text. Or maybe some shorter enticing text.

Do you think this would encourage/increase syndication of your content to any substantial degree?

Maybe for IM content only. I dont see people from non-im niches doing this.

Is there any easier way to implement this, e.g. a script, etc?

Allow module to login to their own wordpress site right there and then and post their content now. Or use email wordpress option. Basically someway they can post NOW.

Would it be possible to accurately gather analytics?

Simple analytics yes. How many times it was copied, where it was posted.

Any ideas on how to improve this concept?

    Immediate mass ping =)

    Hope it helps,

    Young

There is a way for people to copy instantly to their own blogs if they use the "Press This" link from their own Wordpress dashboard and it links at the same time, but obviously this isn't going to be used by most bloggers so a plugin on your own site to make it easy might help. You'd also need some way to make sure any content used linked back to you as copying the text and posting wouldn't necessarily help you get backlinks.

Interesting idea with potential. I don't know if I'd use it, but if I did I'd want this line:

Want to use this article on your site? Click here to copy it to your clipboard!

...at the end of the article where it wouldn't interfere with SEO, so offering a choice might be better.

With that in mind, having an image instead of text would be even better, IMO. Then the "unrelated to the topic" text wouldn't be a part of the article at all.

Don't know if I'd use it but not a bad idea if people actually keep the links in ... which some undoubtedly won't.

That's what I'm sayin.. Sounds like a nice idea in a perfect world but I definitely wouldn't use it. Why make it so easy for people to jack my content... Nope! I'm using the anti-click ish all the way! haha

Im with Suzanne on this one...

Sounds interesting but I think you would need to find some way of protecting the links and/or the content if the links were stripped out. I'm not a coder so thats beyond me but I would think a sharp coder could figure out how to add some sort of protection feature...

    Just a thought.

If done correctly, the fact that it's copy/paste might use the person's own laziness as a layer of protection. Many won't make the effort to go back and strip out the links.

      It's like locking your car.

If you leave your window down and the keys in the ignition, it's easy to steal your car. The thief just gets in and drives. Run the window up, lock the car and take th keys with you. A determined thief will still get your car if he really wants it, but the casual thief will look for easier pickings - like scraping your RSS feed...

Vic, I'm not sure I would use a plugin like that. Not for SEO reasons. Dennis has already given a good way around that.

More because I want people syndicating multiple articles, so I want them signing up for my update list. I can get the drive-bys via EZA and the like.

There's a site: tynt - leverage the power of copy and paste

When someone copies something from your blog/site a link to the original is automatically inserted at the bottom of your content... it's pretty cool (and free).

I think it is a kind of original content protection tool like many article directories used.If someone want to copy our blog content,a article source link will be added automatically in the bottom of the article. But for me, i use anti-clink plugin to protect the blog content.coz someone always steal the content without a link back to my blog.If this wp plugin is coming with auto backlink, it will be superb.

Attribution scripts already exist. Basically when you copy anything from a site, will come with the attribution. Go to almost any article site or Technorati and copy and paste, comes with attribution. Don't need a plugin for that.

Good man just go do it if you believe in yourself and do not let people tell you what to do. The thing is this, if it failed then you have tried who knows maybe later in the near future it will be more useful. If you can do it then do!
