Blog service you can update via email...?

I need to start a blog that allows you to update via email &&&&&& set a publish date through the email. It must have this option....

Any ideas? Can be an install such as Joomla, Wordpress etc (although I have yet to find a plugin or hack for either to make this happen) or it can be hosted like wordpress.com or blogger.com or something else like that....

The more options anyone can throw out on here, the better....

Thanks!

    Hi Brent,

You can use Windows Live Writer to post blogs. As far as I know you cannot do it via email but it allows you to write your blog post on your pc and then push the "publish" button to upload to your blog.

It also allows you to set a publish date and time, so when you click "publish" it uploads but does not publish until the time you specified.

This is very useful if you are going away for a while. You can setup a whole lot of posts and just schedule them to post. It's really easy to use as well - like working with MS Word.

It works with Blogger, WordPress and a few autoresponder services as well.

You can post to blogger via email:

Also, you can post to pixelpipe using email as well. I am not sure about other platforms.

    Some good suggestions so far...

as far as I have found blogger doesn't allow you to email the publish times though, which means anything you email either gets posted right away or waits for your manual approval.

Also, Windows Live Writer sounds like it could do the trick except I need it to be email compatible as I am using it in conjunction with a custom php script I am writing (incase you were wondering) - I am at least going to try and find the source code in WLW and see if it gives me any leads....

    any other ideas?

Brent, try signing up for the WordPress support forum at wordpress.org. Lots of people there who live for this kind of question.

I know you can post to WP by mail, but I'm not sure how to set the post date.

Another way to approach it from a programming standpoint would be to bypass WP altogether and have your app write directly to the MySQL database. I won't try to tell you how to do it, because I know just enough to know I don't know enough.

    BrentB,

All that you need to do is create a Gmail account and then get Boomerang for Gmail.

You can create emails and then schedule when you want the emails sent with Boomerang, that way you can set a time for the email (also your blog post) to be sent. As long as your blog is set up to publish automatically, then the post is done for you.

You can use this with any blogging platform that will accept email publishing.

    Hope that helps.

JohnMcCabe: Good suggestion, ill try heading over there and posting this same question...

I was originally going to post directly to the Wordpress MySQL database but I was having a hard time getting it to take the correct info but I may need to re examine this if I cannot find a good via email solution.

ChrisHunter: This looks cool, not sure if it will help out what I am doing but I am definitely going to install it for general use.

Did we ever get an actual list of blogging services that can be updated via email (with or without the scheduling ability)?

These are the ones that I know of:

    Blogger
    Wordpress
    Tumblr

    Are there others?
