Does this 'harm' a blogs following ??

Hey warriors,

Quick question I want to put out there to you all

So I have my blog that is about 3 months old and going quite well. I have made about $3,500 with it since it began but I have done this just by recommending 1 product, 1 hosting company and 1 autoresponder service.

I have done this just by writing the recommends in posts on my blog. In the next few weeks I am redesigning my blog to improve the features. This will include a new theme that I am going to purchase.

So.. My question.....

Will it harm my blog in terms of my visitors opinion if I begin to monitize a little with small ad spaces ??

I look around at successful blogs and they all seem to have advertising so I would hope it wouldnt have anyimpact but would like to have your thoughts.

Thankyou

Dean

It would depend on how you do the small ads..

If they are placed around the site, so that current readers won't find these ads thrust into their faces, I'm sure you won't looose any readers..

But remembers there is a portion of the Internet user community who believe that the web should be complete 100%, no advertising anywhere and will unsubscribe at the blink of an eye if they see an ad. If your site has some of these people (unlikely) then expect a small drop off..

But we are here to make money and we can't please everyone.. So give it a try and see what happens..

    You can always swap back..

    Take care

    Bruce

      Dean -

I've been watching your blog and I think you are going about it right. Keeping promotions limited while you build up blog content seems very smart to me. You are building readership and trust and adding more products in a measured way - and ads - could give good results.

If you're talking about typical 125x125 sidebar ads, other bloggers pretty much ignore them. The CTR is usually less than 1%.

You can either go with what I call "Big Honkin' Ads" or contextual links and review posts. If your results are consistent with mine, you'll find that the click-thru and conversion rate on them is considerably higher than the 125's.
