Hey,

Just been chatting to a friend on Skype that is quite successful online. He mentioned to me that he hires 'interns' every week.

The interns are US based, as is he. He says they do a ton of work enthusiastically and has hired a few of them on a part-time basis due to them being so good.

Has anyone else had experience with this?

I have been doing that for my office for quite some time. It saves time, allows me to work with fresh faces in the industry while maintaining a pretty low overhead while getting all the basic and number crunching things done.

So, what kind of interns normally i look for?

Mass comm students for videos, creative designing etc
English students for article writing etc, product creation, proofreading..
Accountancy students for what else.. accounts.

On the other hand, I hire interns for the duration of 3 months-6 months.. I am not sure how your friends hires them "every week" or so.

Absolutely. Interns can provide a high level of expertise in many niches at relatively nominal cost. I hire college students (undergrads and graduate students) from the local universities as writers/researchers for a wide variety of niches. They often work out quite well.

      How do you find them?

Do you have them sign a contract of any sort?

Call local colleges and universities. They almost always have students looking for internships. If you can prove you are a legitimate business, you should be able to get non-paid interns through local higher education facilities. You most likely will need a business office, but this can be great labor. I have a friend who owns several regional magazines, and he always has at least one intern on staff who helps with sales, marketing, writing articles and proofreading. The students get college credit and some real world experience on their resumes.

It's a matter of visiting the university admin office and asking for either relevant career placement counselors or the chairperson of the department. Students earn college credits as an intern, and I pay them $10-$12 per hour. You can get employment applications and non-disclosure forms from any office supply store.

Depending on the state, this may be illegal.

Some states require that if they are really "interns" that they receive credit from a college.

Other States (California being one) are very strict about this, and you are required to pay minimum wage + social security taxes and benefits as required by the State, if you aren't giving them college credit for a class.

In the case of California (and several other states), if you do not pay them, and they get pissed, they can file a complaint and the State will go after you. It does not matter where your company is, only matters where they live in this case.

Best is to hire someone offshore, from Philippines or something.

if you want to make huge $$$$ through IM, it's not easy to do all the work alone. you have to hire qualified experts in various fields to do all the work for you.

this involve content writing, webdesign, some data entry, uploading products to your site and other tasks.
