Am I missing a monetization opportunity?

Hey folks,

I have a question that I hope won't be too vague. I'm working on a site for my own personal passion - story-driven video games - that will essentially provide reviews that focus solely on the story of a game and whether or not it's engaging.

This is a labor of love first and foremost, but I figured I could probably make a bit of pocket change in the process. At least enough to pay for the hosting and the domain. Maybe enough to pay contributing writers for reviews of games I have not yet played. Nothing too ambitious.

My plan is to write reviews that are tightly-focused with buying traffic in mind. Obviously I can sell the games themselves through affiliate links. I have a few options for this and it will likely come down to which converts the best, which I suspect will still be Amazon, especially now that they have a digital checkout for PC games.

What I really wanted to do was offer the game for buyers and then an alternative option for people who aren't positive. There's a CPA offer that offers $25 commission for getting leads to sign up for a free trial of a video game subscription site. (Sorry for the vagueness, not sure if we can directly mention companies here) Unfortunately I got auto-rejected for that program and I'm not sure why. I emailed the affiliate manager politely asking why and explaining how I planned to bring in leads for the company, but so far no response.

My question now is: Am I missing anything? It seems like Adsense or any other sort of ad module would just distract away from the sale; same with any CPA offers that aren't highly targeted.

Also, any thoughts on why a company would auto-reject (through CJ.com)? I've been accepted to a couple other programs there. I'm a US resident marketing to a US demographic, so it can't be that. I'm a bit stumped!

Thanks for any help you might be able to provide.

Once you've got decent traffic (which video game sites often attain) you can then make quite a bit off advertising revenue.

I originally started one of my sites with the intention of making the majority of my income from it from affiliate income and soon found I was making as much or more from advertising income which was pretty cool as it was a fairly passive type of income for me.
