Why are my Facebook profiles more active than my fan pages?

I have a facebook profile and a page for the same business with a similar number of friends/fans respectively, and when I post an identical update, like or comment to each of them, the profile always gets more interaction than the page. There are always more comments, likes and fresh posts on the wall than on the fan page. From what I understand both page and profile status updates are posted to the fans/friends stream, so there shouldn't be any difference in visibility between pages and profiles?

    Hi neongoesfaster,

My theory is friends are loyal and fans are fickle. It is a different mindset.

I rarely do much of anything on a "fan page". I have about 2 dozen personal accounts, all with 4,000+ friends in each and that is where I do all my connecting and advertising. Works like a charm.

I also have "fan pages" on all 2 dozen account with the pages having about 1500 fans in each page on average. Hardly any activity on the fan pages.

I do promote my fan pages on my profile and I still get no action on it. It's better and easier to do all of your promoting on your personal profile.....the only drawback (used to be) was the 5k limit, but now with subscriber option....the door is wide open

I do a ton of fan page traffic and the reason is, if you didn't notice...the pictures are smaller.

If you don't have pictures with your fan page updates...I'm not sure.

Well as for me, the same thing happens but I've fixed it now. My fan page is more interactive now. What you can do to spike up your fan page's activity is to use facebook as your fan page then start liking other fan pages, comment on other fan pages and start joining popular comment threads. Don't just leave one liner comments. Leave a comment that would without a doubt pull someone in to like your page. Another great way is to make use of the Questions feature. Ask a question at least 1-2x/day. Anyone who answers, will show up in their newsfeed and other people will see it and will most likely answer your question and like your page. It's all about using your fan page like you use your personal fb page.
