Camtasia and Powerpoint Recording

Quick question. I am doing a camtasia recording and want to include powerpoint slides with narration.

What is the best way to incorporate into camtasia

with just screen capture of the slideshow while I narrate?
or
with powerpoint add-on
or
turn slideshow into movie and then import into camtasia clip bin and then add narration?

What has worked best for you?

    Screen capture the slideshow while you narrate making sure to turn off 'system sounds' when you are recording. This method is the easiest...

    ...but if you intend to add any dynamic sound editing, music, multiple voices narrating, etc. than record the powerpoint presentation slide by slide (just a few seconds per slide is okay becuz you'll be pausing the video portion while you insert audio). If you're only adding music during the title slides then don't worry about recording and adding audio later. It's very time consuming.

    If you need the latest version let me know.... I might have an extra license... =)

    I recently recorded a powerpoint with the add in. It's awesomely simple.

    The way Vince said to do it makes it easier if you make mistakes in your dialog frequently (like I do). You can easily chop out the dodgy bits without affecting the video

      The easiest way to account for mistakes is to simply stop talking for 5 seconds or so when you make a mistake, and then keep on going. When you come to edit the video those big pauses will stand out like a sore thumb in the audio wave and you can easily hone in and cut out those mistakes. Never start over, there is no need and it will take you forever doing it this way.

        Excellent advice from Vince and Will.

        Just from my personal experience, I prefer the Powerpoint Add-On. Super simple to use (like Jimmy stated).

        And listen to Will about pausing when you mess up. It's quite easy to find the pauses and delete them when editing. So much quicker than starting over. From my earlier recordings (before I realized this little trick) it would take me literally 1-2 hours to record a 10 minute video.

        Not fun... not fun at all.

        Yeah that's exactly what I do. It's a pain when you have anything moving in your slides though, as you have to make sure you start talking from a point before the movement began, else you end up with things jumping around the slide.
