Can someone tell me what the CSV file is please?

As Im fairly new to keyword, SEO etc, Ive seen a fair bit of reference to CSV file and cannot seem to find out anywhere what that is. Could someone enlighten me please?

    .csv = comma separated values.

    Typically a text file that each field is separated by a comma. Typically used to import into a spreadsheet such as MS Excel or Open Office. By importing into one of these programs, each comma separated field represents a column in the spreadsheet.

    Just to add a bit more on what Kevin said, if you have microsoft excel installed, you can open the csv file directly without doing any imports.

      Ahhh great thanks AUKev and SalmaR. I just did a csv export from Rank Checker, went to excel and changed filename extensions to .txt to locate and opened as a csv. No importing necessary.
