What's your favorite free traffic method?

For those whom already understand how to generate traffic to your websites, what is your favorite method?

I'll give off a list of a bunch of the ones I can think of off the top of my head, but you can add onto this however you'd like.
  • Article marketing
  • Search engine's
  • Forums
  • Answer websites
  • Social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Google+
  • Videos
  • Subscription list (which you acquire with traffic, but can create future traffic)
  • Hubpages/Squidoo, other more quality driven article networks
  • Adswaps

There are hundreds more out there but these are just a few of the ones I could think of off the top of my head.

My favorite would have to be Facebook Pages right now as they have driven my business way further and are similar to subscription lists.

So what's your favorite and why?

I personally focus on Facebook at the moment, but I have many websites that receive upwards of 500 unique visitors a day.

The average website for me stays around 100 unique visitors per day because that's my minimum.

However, I do have a few websites that achieve upwards of 3,000 uniques per day and one that receives more than 16,000 pageviews per day.

Facebook Pages are my favorite though and I just wrote a post about how I achieve 44,000 fans the other day on a Facebook page. I could post a single message to the Facebook page and usually receive anywhere from 200 - 2000 unique visitors to a website within 30 minutes, hence why they are more favored to me right now.

But my other favorite would have to be forums because I like talking to people and seeing the type of mentalities that I'm dealing with inside of an industry so I can relate more to them.

Hey Justin you said you wrote a post about how you got those fans, could you share the link? I'm no where near that amount of traffic so I'd like to learn. Also add me on Skype if you don't mind.

For me my favorite free traffic comes from Twitter. I automated most of it, I have software that automatically follows and unfollows people based on niche topics and keywords. I also use Hootsuite to automate most of my posting, I usually have about a week of tweets scheduled out in advance. And I just log in every couple days to reply to people, only takes a few minutes.

I don't know if I'm allowed to post a link to another thread within a thread, but just go to Mind Warriors forum and look for "Finally, 44,000+ Facebook Fans/Likes!" and it'll show how I'm doing with my statistics.

I like document sharing websites like Scribd, DocStoc, Slideshare, etc.

I've made $$$ from stuff posted there for months after the initial submission

SEO has been the best for what I've invested time and money. Also, I find the social media traffic to be less targeted, less serious about the offers. But I'm sure I have plenty to learn about it too.

Yeah you can't send social media traffic straight to offers (in most cases). Instead try sending them to a squeeze page and have a free report delivered by autoresponder #1, and have it redirect to your sales page after they enter in their email and name. That way you'll still have them on your list if they don't buy.

I agree SEO can be great, but it's also more risky. That's why I like subscription lists and facebook pages.

      The difference is this however.

Subscription list - They actually opt-in via typing something like an email + name or something of that nature instilling more trust and want.

Facebook fans - They click a button to opt-in and VOILA they are done.

The big deal here however is you can do tests with those people, you can learn who your market is, ages, countries, usability, what they like outside of your page.

For example I have a Facebook page with thousands of likes and 80% of them are also fans of a competeting brand.

What makes this awesome is that I can then target both audiences at once on the same website, or focus on ad placements involving the 2 brands, or comparing them.

There are tons of different things you can do with a Facebook list that you can't do with a subscription list (like Aweber). In the end I would prefer 45,000 subscribers via Aweber versus 45,000 subscribers on Facebook, but interaction is extremely high and after you get to a certain point on Facebook, it doesn't take anything at all to get more fans/likes.

I got over 300 likes on a Facebook page in the last 2 days, versus 15 subscriptions for the same niche.

By far article marketing and subscription lists are my favorite. Combining the two can lead to a very nice income for the long run.

Craigslists by far... I've tried them all and facebook friends and twitter followers are fun, but paying customers are better. You can post for free in 30 cities whose combined population is over 50 million people... use multiple accounts and clean up after yourself to avoid having your accounts closed. The service section is also free and a great place to sell b2b products.

Just remember to use the sandwich method in craigslists if you are recruiting. You can't send them straight to a squeeze/sales page or else the ad will be removed and your account will be suspended. Have them fill out a quick app form and then drive them to your list. '

Built 3 companies that way... although i guess it's not totally free because I have 5 hard phone lines that cost $125 per month... voip and international numbers won't work to verify craigslist accounts.

I would have to say a combination between giving away free information(blog post) and articles. These have been the most impressive. The others are bringing up the rear but have major potential!
