Purchasing "Permanent links"

Not sure if this is the right forum for this question, so feel free to report it to mods if it is incorrect.
If I sell permanent link spots on my site to other pet related web sites, only to find out down the road that they are engaging in "shady" link building tactics" or "frowned upon on page SEO" am I within my right to remove their link with no refund?
I ask this because if I am linking out to a site that is "cheating" the system if you will, then that could reflect poorly on me and I could be impacted. Cheers.

This is a marketing forum, and the vast majority of us are not lawyers, so take any advice offerred in that context.

I'd look at what agreement you have in place with the buyers of these links. If you haven't sold them yet, you will want to create your 'termination of links' policy before you start selling. If you already sold them, then what was the written contract?

You can obviously remove any link you want, but if you sold it as a "permanent" link, that could get you into trouble depending on the terms of the agreement.

Just speaking hypothetically because at some point I'd like to sell a few and just want to make sure that I'm covered. Thanks for opinion.

It all depends on the agreement you made with the person you sold the link to. If you state this in the agreement, then you have the right, but if not, then you don't.
